Cheese sandwiches… a staple of plain snacks or even food if eaten in bulk. A plain sandwich with just bread and any type of cheese in the middle as the filling. Now there is some controversy as to what a plain cheese sandwich is and I am informing you so you know the difference. In the following information essay I will explain what a plain cheese sandwich is.To know what a plain cheese sandwich is we must first know what a sandwich is in the first place.

So what is a sandwich you say? When searching through the most basic of google searches you will find many definitions stating “A sandwich is a food typically consisting of vegetables, sliced cheese or meat, placed on or between slices of bread.” Now there are multiple parts to the sandwich and doing more research I was able to find out a sandwich has 2 to 3 or more parts. Parts of the sandwich include the bread, the filling, and the accompaniment. With this definition we can safely say that a cheese sandwich is 2 slices of bread with the users choice of cheese in the middle.

Now let's go with the word plain. Plain is used to describe something regularly boring but that's not always right. The definition for the word plain is to be free of extraneous matter or lacking ornament. Ornaments are extra steps or parts to making this sandwich. Grilling a sandwich would therefore count as an ornament giving a clear classification of a grilled cheese sandwich and a plain cheese sandwich. Grilling a sandwich makes it no longer plain because you are adding ornament to the sandwich by melting the cheese and adding extra steps to the creation of the sandwich. Now we have a line between a grilled cheese sandwich and a plain cheese sandwich.
