Due to their ability to be applied in various fields in recent years, free radicals have grown in popularity in the organic field. Free radicals can be applied in various applications to prepare organic compounds because of the ease of methodology, accuracy, selectivity, and the need for moderate conditions. Free radical reactions can occur in polymerization, cyclization in combustion, atmospheric chemistry, plasma chemistry, biochemistry, etc. These reactions readily occur in chain reactions in the initiation, propagation, and termination stages.

A free radical is an atom or a compound containing unpaired electrons, which can derive from the photochemical homolytic bond cleavage, thermal homolysis weak bonds, atom or group transfer reaction where the radical abstract hydrogen or other atoms from a solvent or reagent, addition reactions with alkenes, and also fragmentation.

In the various sections to be addressed within this topic, one of interest is novel initiators that effects free radical reactions and observe how it improves or disservice the reaction altogether such as the paper, 1-Aryl-2-(triisopropylsilyl)ethane-1,2-diones (SEDs) are proposed a new class of visible Type I photoinitiators (PIs) for free-radical polymerization. And subsequently, addressing one of several other reactions such as alkylation radical reaction by generating tertiary carbon radicals and studying how it differs from other alkylation reactions, Radical Dehydroxylative Alkylation of Tertiary Alcohols by Ti Catalysis.
