Renewable Energy, also known as clean energy, is a power source generated from natural resources and processes. Unlike fossil fuels renewable energy does not cause any harm to the atmosphere. Fossil fuels not only cause major damage to the environment but the decline of inventory is causing drastic economical issues. Opponents of renewable energy such as the Bismarck Tribune argue that renewable energy is too costly, renewable energy still has some negative effects on the environment, and renewable energy is not always reliable. Despite these claims the U.S Department of Energy should mandate a change that implements renewable energy as a significant source of power because clean power generates numerous employment opportunities, natural resources are inexhaustible forms of energy, and renewable energy positively influences the environment and lessens the use of fossil fuels.

Despite opponents arguing that applying renewable energy is too expensive, the renewable energy sector provides thousands of construction and maintenance jobs. These opportunities provide high wage and stable jobs to blue-collar workers. Additionally, 3.3 million workers are currently employed in the clean energy business. There are also 335,000 people working in the solar industry and more than 111,000 in the wind industry, contrasted to 211,000 working in coal mining or other fossil fuel extraction. Not only are there more people currently employed in the green energy departments than fossil fuel departments, but it is predicted that the margin of employment in the clean energy business to the fossil fuel business will expand even more. According to Silvio Marcacci in his 2019 article entitled Renewable Energy Job Boom Creates Economic Opportunity As Coal Industry Slumps he displays , “E2 reports the fastest-growing jobs across 12 states were in renewable energy during 2018, and renewable energy is already the fastest-growing source of new U.S. electricity generation. America’s two fastest-growing jobs through 2026 will be solar installer and wind technician”. Despite certain opposing claims that renewable energy is too expensive, renewable energy provides a substantial amount of jobs that will grow the overall economy, and the clean energy industry is expanding quickly.

Not only does renewable energy provide working opportunities, but those opportunities will last for a lengthy period of time because natural resources are essentially limitless. In his Natural resources will most likely not run out for generations or even ever. Some natural resources can be reused, and others can be recovered. Renewable energy harnesses wind and sun power to power machinery. Those natural resources are constantly being replenished  According to CK-12's 2019 article entitled Renewable vs. Nonrenewable Energy Resources it mentions, “The difference between non-renewable and renewable resources is like the difference between ordinary batteries and rechargeable ones. If a flashlight with ordinary batteries goes dead, the batteries need to be replaced. But if the flashlight has rechargeable batteries, the batteries can be placed in a charger. The charger transfers energy from an outlet into the batteries. Once recharged, the batteries can be put back into the flashlight. Rechargeable batteries can be used again and again. In this way, the energy in the rechargeable batteries is renewable.” Natural resources can never run out, because of the

Natural resources not only provide a sustainable source of energy, but also provide an atmosphere-friendly source of energy, opposed to the harmful fossil fuels deteriorating the environment and creating climate change. In the article authored by NRDC it states that, “Carbon emissions trap heat in the atmosphere and lead to climate change. In the United States, the burning of fossil fuels, particularly for the power and transportation sectors, accounts for about three-quarters of our carbon emissions.” However renewable has no harmful effect on the environment, and if installed will have no contribution to climate change or pollution.  In the USCUSA article entitled Environmental Impacts of Renewable Energy Technologies states, “Harnessing power from the wind is one of the cleanest and most sustainable ways to generate electricity as it produces no toxic pollution or global warming emissions. Wind is also abundant, inexhaustible, and affordable, which makes it a viable and large-scale alternative to fossil fuels.” Not only wind but solar energy and other renewable sources release little to no toxic gases into the atmosphere. Renewable energy provides a clean power source that can be used in construction, factories, and day to day use. A conversion to renewable energy would benefit the environment and safety of humankind.

The U.S department of energy must sanction a slow change to the world’s predominant source of energy from fossil fuels to renewable energy, because of the longevity of natural resources, the economical benefits of renewable energy, and the positive impacts clean energy has on the environment.
