The fear of consequential outcomes can make it hard to face a risk, however some people overcome that fear when it comes to saving a loved population. For example in,“The vanishing island”, a tribe decides to relocate to save their loved ones from the phenomenal conditions on their land.  And in“Lights for lions” ' A man created an invention to save lions from extinction. Lastly in “The day I saved a life”, A boy confronts a fisherman that’s catching a shark, and convinces him to put the shark back. In the texts “The vanishing island”, “Lights for lions”, and “The day I saved a life”, People undertake risk in order to save a loved population, which helps the reader understand that when it comes to saving a population it is worth taking a risk

In the vanishing island people decide to leave their land for multiple reasons but one of the main reasons was to save the land population of loved ones from disastrous conditions occurring on the land. In the beginning the Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw Native American tribe decided to stay on their land though it was eroding due to severe hurricanes, The conditions on their land had began to get worse and they couldn’t do anything about it, but they weren’t   looking forward to leaving their land since they didn’t want to let go of the roots of their culture, history, and traditions. But “The longer we wait,” Naquin says in the documentary Can’t Stop the Water, “the more hurricane seasons we have to go through. We hate to let the island go, but we have to. It’s like losing a family.” The conditions on the tribe’s land got worse than ever, but none of the tribe members considered the option of leaving. Naquin tried convincing the tribe to leave because they don’t have any control over the hurricanes that occur on their land. The tribe wasn’t really convinced but they had  to relocate and leave their homeland as soon as possible since it was rapidly being destroyed and eroded. It was a very hard choice for them to make but "They want to save the family values and the culture so that the younger generation can experience what they experienced.” The tribe members finally get convinced that they have to leave, though they don't want to lose their culture, history and traditions. They were more afraid of losing loved family members. It was a hard decision for the tribe. They wish they could’ve had an opportunity to do something about it.

But “Most residents were ready to leave” and finally take this risk, because it was the only thing that they could do at that time to stay together and maintain their community. Most of the tribe members were ready to leave and take the risk so they can hopefully stay together and maintain their community. Overall The tribe risked leaving their homeland where their culture, history, and traditions belong, to save their families and loved ones from the severe hurricanes occurring.
