Nowadays, abortion is the most common issue among women. What is abortion in the first place? According to a study, abortion is a medical procedure that eliminates the embryo, which is the pregnancy tissue or the fetus inside a woman’s body. This procedure stops the process of pregnancy in women. What could be the reason for women to have an abortion? According to research, ninety-six percent of abortion is performed, and the motive for these abortions is social and economic reasons. Mental health could be another reason for abortion. Some of the reasons are complex cases, potential birth defects, and possibly physical health for both mothers and the unborn child. There are side effects as well when abortion has been done. There are alternatives to abortion. The most common option is adoption. Abortion should be illegalized. Killing an innocent and precious child is murder even if the child is unborn.

There are reasons behind these abortions. Study shows women get an abortion due to social and economic reasons. The top reason for women to get an abortion, according to studies, is because of social and economic reasons. Having a baby could have a significant impact on a women’s life. It could be that a mother felt they had enough and they are not interested in having more kids or babies in her life, but unplanned pregnancy happened. Some women have terrible relationships and don’t want to end up being single mothers. A baby could interfere with a woman’s life, like their education, work, and accomplishing their dream or career. Some woman is not ready to have a baby. Maybe it is their age or their maturity. Many people in our surroundings love to gossip, so to protect personal lives, women would do an abortion if they get pregnant; this will avoid being the topic, and they don’t want other people, family or friends, to know that they are active sexually. This topic leads to complex cases that include sexual abuse such as rape and being molested by a family member or friend. Several women had a bad experience; they wanted to forget the things that happened to them. To end it, they would think about getting an abortion. People who experience sexual abuse experience nightmares, anxiety, and depression: this factor is not suitable for people’s mental health. It could be a financial reason for abortion. Having a baby and raising a child could be expensive, especially when women are still doing school or getting a higher education; women need to be financially stable to handle all the expenses. Another factor could be that the woman is unemployed and could not find a job. A small scale of women suffers from birth defects, and it can cause damage to the body if not taken care of. All these factors can result in abortion.

What could happen to women after abortion? Abortion can cause side effects to a women’s body, physically and mentally. The consequences could be short-term or long-term. Women can feel a short-term effects like abdominal swelling and pain right after the abortion. Some effects will appear later on in women’s life. According to Dr. Elizabeth Shadigan, “abortion increases rates of breast cancer, placenta previa, pre-term births, and maternal suicide. Statistically, all types of deaths are higher with women who have had induced abortions.”. Research shows that women who had abortions before will be more likely to go back for counseling. Women had to suffer from psychological trauma.

There is an option other than abortion. Adoption can be a way to prevent abortion. Today, there are types of adoption whether you decide to have an open or close adoption. It can also be a direct placement or use an agency. U.S. Department of Health & Human Services stated that “Legal guardianship is one of the options available to parents who are planning for the care of their children in their absence due to a variety of situations, such as illness or incarceration. It allows parents to name a caregiver and to give the caregiver certain legal rights regarding the care of the child(ren). In most cases, the parents’ legal rights are not terminated and the parents still play a role in their children’s lives. Legal guardians have custody of the children and the authority to make decisions concerning the protection, education, care, discipline, etc.”. In an open adoption, you can still keep in touch with the child’s adoptive parents. If the mother wants no contact with the child, she can choose closed adoption; The adoptive family may choose not to tell the child about the adoption. (“Healthline,” 2019). Deciding to choose the adoptive parents personally will fall under Direct Placement Adoption. Lastly, parents can go through an agency for adoption. According to Healthline, “Finding the right agency is important. Choose one that offers counseling and information about all pregnancy options. helps you access medical care and emotional support, treats you with compassion, not judgment or disdain, is licensed and operates ethically, answers your questions openly and honestly, allows you to have at least some say in your child’s adoptive family.”

“You shall not murder” (New International Version, Exodus 20:13). Abortion is killing, and it is against the word of God. Taking an innocent life away is murder, whether it is an unborn child or not. The unborn child has the right to be protected.  According to research, fetuses can feel pain. According to Dr. Kanwaljeet Anand, “If the fetus is beyond 20 weeks of gestation, I would assume that there will be pain caused to the fetus. And I believe it will be severe and excruciating pain.”.

As a counterclaim, some people are not ready to be a parent. Some people can afford to have a baby. People who are traumatized by others violating them. These people will likely consider abortion. The fetus is still on their body, and women will consider having an abortion. Women have the right to their bodies.

However, women should know what abortion is and what it can do to their mental and physical health. Women need to consider adoption as a replacement for abortion. The unborn child inside the mother’s womb has a life so getting an abortion is the same as committing murder.

In conclusion, for social and economic reasons, being financially stable or mentally unhealthy is a concern for women to consider getting an abortion. To undergo an abortion is not an easy decision, for it comes with short and long-term side effects. These side effects can affect your mental health; being anxious and depressed can be the symptoms. Birth defects can be an effect later on, and even the death of a mother. Abortion is a horrible thing to do, for it causes life on an innocent and unborn child. Abortion should be banned for it is against protecting the unborn child. Abortion defies the word of God, for it is murder.
