The text briefed us on how the industrial revolution, and human activities had influenced the rapid changing of the Earth’s climate that it became alarming. It explored the effects caused by the industrial revolution, deforestation, wildfires, and the ignorance of the higher-ups/governments on the growing problems.  It is illustrated in a neat and coherent manner. While such activities are done for humanity to thrive, it’s important to learn on how we can properly interact and treat the environment. More so hinder the destructions that we inflict on it. Failure to do so may lead us to risking our health and environment due to pollution, be vulnerable to natural disasters like floods and landslides, and most of all an early death for us and our common home.

In my opinion, the text speaks truth.

The problems stated are real. They can be seen, read, and heard anywhere. The factories that helps the industries to thrive often abuse the environment for their resources. Additionally, they have to burn fossil fuels to process those resources and in doing so release chemical waste and harmful gases that pollute the air and oceans. There is also a demand of multiple products. I am troubled that those waste is in the same air I breathe or in the seafood I eat. Reading the paragraph about that topic made me realize that the fight for better treatment of the environment is hard. It’s not going to be easy to convince the biggest contributors in climate change to simply just stop. Yet, I wish to continue my pursuit of advocating for better company practices for the betterment and safety of everyone.

The thinning of forests is felt in today’s time. In my experience, floods are noticeably more heard/experienced. According to Global Forest Watch, the Philippines has lost over 1.29Mha of tree cover in a span of 19 years (2001-2020). In 2021 alone, the Philippines experienced two major typhoons that has caused major damage and flooding in communities. This part of the text scared me on how we truly are vulnerable without trees. To think so much damage and suffering was felt by the people because it’s not like we can resist storms on our own. I found it interesting that trees offer so much more than being another source of material. The text opened me on how it’s crucial to value our trees, it inspired me to plant a lot when I get to have a chance.

I agree that governments do need to take actions that may help solve small ecological crises or bring awareness to it. Such actions will truly help hinder the deterioration of several environments. It may also band a group of people together that may come up with more effective solutions that may prevent ecological crises. Though, the text did fail to bring up a few statements on how the government may contribute.

My overall thoughts and feelings is how much we’ve truly lived in a life of ignorance that we failed to nurture what nurtured us. Again, the text overall spoke truth. You see the effects of the industrial revolution as more bodies of water get more poisoned or how air feels much more unpleasant to breathe. The thinning of forests has lead us to become vulnerable, this can be seen in the recent typhoons and the amount of damage it caused.  It aroused fear we may only have a short amount of time on Earth. Governments truly need to take charge for the common folk needs to be guided to do what’s right for the environment. Though, some of the texts felt lacking. While it presented its ideas clearly and in a well presented manner, each statements felt lacking in back ups, reasons, or follow ups. Despite that, I believe the text is worthy to be shared for it talks about ecological problems. This concerns all of us and it’s important to be aware.
