What would you do if you found out that a family member, or a close friend had died while climbing a mountain that they thought would be safe because of an ad they had seen online? How would you feel? Now imagine all those people who didn't have to imagine it, all those people who had died on Mount Everest because of commercial climbing.

Throughout the years it has been said that over 100 people have died on Mount Everest, and most bodies still remain on the mountain till this day. “According to the Himalayan Database, around 300 people have died on Mount Everest since Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary first reached its summit in 1953. Because of its famously harsh conditions, an estimated 200 of those bodies remain on the mountain” (Matthews)  Just in 1953, there was an estimation of 200 bodies that have been left on Everest, imagine how many bodies there are in 2021, how many people have lost their lives through the years.

Not only Is climbing Mount Everest dangerous, the media fails to acknowledge how dangerous it is, giving people a different idea of how challenging, physically and mentally, climbing Mount Everest actually is. “Climbers need to wake up and understand that climbing a big peak like Everest is extremely risky. They need to stop believing just because they are with a 'Sherpa guide' who has summited Everest 10 times that they will be rescued if they get in trouble" says Alan.” (Bashyal) Even if commercial climbing continues, they should at least make people more aware of how life risking it is.

If you are still not convinced why commercial climbing should be discontinued, think about all the money you would be spending, and how much of it can go into something more useful. “While some companies offer luxury expeditions for as much as $130,000, the commercial climbing operators who spoke to Business Insider charged between $45,000 and $100,000.” (Cain) With the money you spend on climbing a mountain that could kill you, and if not kill you leaves you with multiple health problems, you can be spending that money on a car, or put it in your funds for the future.

Although by climbing Mount Everest, it can make you appreciate more things in life. “Exposed and tricky climbing and route finding can get the best of your mental abilities. The classic quote that tells you “not to look at the whole mountain take it one piece at a time” is something you will come to understand. You will learn to never give up; to know that the reward will be worth the work it takes.”(10 Reasons Why Climbing Mountains Can Enrich Your Life) By being in certain situations, it can make you thankful for things you aren't, or weren't usually thankful for, But you shouldn't explore this at a place that has took so so many people's lives, there are many other places that can feel this need  of exploration and  gratitude that doesn't have a high risk of you not even being able to come home.

In conclusion, commercial climbing should not continue to be a thing, as you can see not only do you risk losing your life, or seeing other people lose their life from being un experienced and not educating themselves on Mount Everest, there are also so many more things you can do with the money you would be spending. There are too many risks at stake that come with commercial climbing, is it really needed?
