Essay Sample about Connie Chung

When born the 20th of August in 1946, Connie Chung was considered a disappointment to her father because Chinese superstition praised boys more than girls. Now Connie is a world sensation Television Journalist. 

Connie was born and raised in Washington D.C. For her education she attended the University of Maryland and got a degree in journalism. Connie used that degree to get a job at an independent television station to be a reporter. She did regular reporter duties and in 1971 Connie went on to be a reporter for CBS in Los Angeles. She was well respected, making a groundbreaking salary of six hundred thousand dollars. In today’s money that is over one and a half million dollars. It was the highest in the nation for a local news anchor.

In 1983 Connie took a big risk by going to NBC (national television), since her salary decreased heavily. She had a job as an anchor for the show  Saturday edition of "The NBC Nightly News," "NBC News at Sunrise and covered the 1984 and 1988 presidential election. Even though her pay was cut she earned celebrity status for working at NBC. She was known as a kind and nice lady and had a lot of characterics on the anchor.(Connie working as anchor on May 9, 1985)

After working at NBC for about 6 years Connie’s contract ended in 1989. She is leaving NBC and going back to CBS. Her move back to CBS was made by a bidding war. This shows that Connie was a powerful and influential person in the News industry. Her salary at CBS was around 1.5 million dollars. That is 3.3 million dollars in today's money! At CBS she even launched her own show "Saturday Night with Connie Chung." It was a one hour show that stood out from the rest of the competition even though some people didn’t like that idea. Also, at CBS she covered milestone events such as the Persian Gulf war in 1991. 

Connie Chung is a wonderful and bright woman. She earned many awards during her career such as getting 3 Emmy Awards. Now Connie Chung stands as a role model for people and will always be remembered as an influential person.
