Eating inconsities are more common than you may think and are a normal thing in our society; in America alone 28.8 million people have eating inconsities. There are many common traits in people that have eating problems: a desire for perfection, being critical of yourself, and obsessive or compulsive behaviors are all common traits that are common among people with eating inconsistencies. Although there are many different ways to recover, not all of them may work for you. These include but are not limited to: looking after yourself, seeking peer support, and changing your unhealthy habits. In your lifetime,  you spend 32,098 minutes eating, but many things can change this number like eating disorders, exercise, as well as stress.

Do you know anyone that has an eating disorder? Like most people, you can probably think of at least one person. According to the Mind.org, “ Eating disorders are actually serious and often fatal illnesses that are associated with severe disturbances in people’s eating behaviors and related thoughts and behaviors” (“Eating Problems'').   People that develop eating disorders most of the time start with obsessions of your weight, and food. This can later lead to these dangerous eating behaviors that can significantly impact your life and eating habits. Eating disorders are most likely to develop in your teen year or in your early adulthood. The article from Mayo Clinic states “ Teenage girls and young women are more likely than teenage boys and young men to have anorexia or bulimia, but males can have eating disorders, too,” (“ Eating Disorders”).  In your teenage and young adulthood you are under a lot of pressure and stress. Young adults, women and teenage girls are highly affected by the way that the media says they should be. Another other factor that can affect your chances to get eating disorders can be family history. Eating disorders are something that can’t not only hurt you physically and mentally but also affect your eating.

Exercise is something that is drawn into our head since we are younger. Where we may be inclined not to listen to those conversations. Exercise can greatly affect the amount of food that we consume on a daily basis.The article from MSU Today states, “ The research analyzed 2,680 young adults in an intensive, 15- week exercise program and found they were less likely to snack or follow a typical Western diet high in fat and carbohydrates, and more likely to choose fruits, vegetables and low-fat alternatives” (Geri Kelley).  Exercise can have a huge impact on your eating habits. It helps you not want to eat the things that are bad for your diet. “ Exercise affects our relationship with food in both physical and psychological ways” ( Brian  Mastroianni). Exercise is a staple need to be a well rounded person. I can help you eat healthier and make better choices when it comes to your diet.

Stress is a very common thing in our society; the amount of people with significant amounts of stress has gone up in the last couple years and now more than 3 in 4 adults say they deal with long term stress. As a result of this an article from Harvard Health Publishing, “ In short term, stress can shut down appetite.” Although it can shut down your appetite and make you not want to  eat; people that deal with stress also tend to stress eat and eat more than they should.  Stress eating can lead to binge eating disorders. “ You probably have enough personal experiences to know that comfort foods- those that mentally bring us back to a more carefree time of childhood, and that are often high in sugar, fat, or both- are what emotional overeaters usually crave when tension rise” (5 Ways to Stop Stress Eating and Why You Should). As a result of this if you learn to deal  with stress then you will be able to take control of your food. Though it is difficult because we all go through stress during our life. We just have to learn  how deal with  it and not overeat due to stress.
