Esperanza is the only child of a very wealthy family. Esperanza believed she would  always have an exceptional life at El Rancho De Las Rosas. After Papa’s death, Esperanza and her family fell into depression. They took a train to California and Esperanza’s life was damaged. In this essay you will learn about how Esperanza’s character traits and her actions transform. Read on to find out more about Esperanza and her actions.

On page 78, Esperanza asked Carmen why she helped the begging woman and whether she could help herself.  This tells me that Esperanza doesn’t know the life of a homeless person. According to the text it stated “But why does Carmen need to take care of the beggar at all. Only a few yards away is the farmer’s market with carts of fresh food.” This detail shows that Esperanza thinks everyone has the money to afford food. The text also says “The people turned their backs on the begging woman.” This  shows that even begging for money is very hard. As of now, Esperanza is selfish and does not want to give the begging woman a dime.

In chapter 12, after Mama got ill, Esperanza had to work in the fields. Esperanza needed to pay the bills and bring Abuelita to America. She also had to take care of the babies. She was very selfish and spoiled, but now she is hardworking. Esperanza agreed to become La Patrona of the family. According to the text it stated “Don’t worry Mama. Remember, I will take care of everything. I am working and I can pay the bills. I love you.” This detail explains that Esperanza is now working really hard in the fields to pay the bills and everything else.

Esperanza’s actions and character traits really changed a lot. In chapter 5, Esperanza doesn't know the meaning of hard work. In chapter 12, Esperanza is now determined to pay the bills and bring Abuelita to America. According to page 78, it stated “But why does Carmen need to take care of the beggar at all. Only a few yards away is the farmer’s market with carts of fresh food.” In the beginning, Esperanza was pretty selfish and thinks everyone has money. According to page 184, it stated “Don’t worry Mama. Remember, I will take care of everything. I am working and I can pay the bills. I love you” This detail shows that Esperanza is now working really hard to help Mama pay the bills and everything else.

All in all, Esperanza had changed from a very selfish girl to a determined and hardworking girl. Although Esperanza’s life was damaged, Esperanza now knows the meaning of hard work and she is now used to it. Therefore, now you know how Esperanza’s character trait changed.
