Dropping out of high school is not a highly talked about topic, so I took it upon myself to find out information about high school dropouts. It is something that a lot of people tend to do as high schoolers without knowing much about it other than, no more school. The rate of dropping out of high school seems to be going down in the United States.While some people think if you are a high school drop out you will be a failure and end up on the street. There are 1.2 million students a year that drop out, why is this and how does it affect our schools? Because most high schoolers drop out because of failing grades, the rate in the United States dropouts has gone down by 3% since 2019, and It may not always be because of grades that people drop out, they may have other stuff going on. So, I decided I would take a look into high school dropouts.  Firstly I was thinking about how a lot of high schoolers seem to drop out for many reasons, but sometimes I wonder what the main reasons are. The most common reason high schoolers drop out is because of too many failing grades. They feel as if they aren't going to be able to get them up and pass, so they end up dropping out to stay on the safe side. The second most common reason high schoolers drop out is because of drug use. Some high schoolers start experimenting with drugs, and they get so hooked they can't do anything else, so they drop out. These are the two main reasons for students dropping out of high school, but there are plenty more reasons.  Something that I wondered was how old do you have to be to drop out, and do your parents have to sign off on it? What I found out was if you go to school in Colorado you have to be 17 to drop out without parental consent. This is for Colorado but in all other states, the age varies. Also, If you are younger than 17 in Colorado schools you have to finish your 9th-grade year to be able to drop out with parental consent. Does dropping out of high school affect the students? Yes, people do think that students who drop out are affected. One main effect of dropping out of high school was fewer job opportunities/ lower income. Something else interesting that I found out was kids who drop out are more likely to come in contact with the criminal justice system. It is proven that people who drop out of high school get more involved with illegal stuff and are more likely to get arrested.  What do most students do after they drop out of high are lot that also does a lot with their life?  All in all, these are some reasons for high school dropouts. Yes, The rates are lower. But, Let's just hope they keep getting lower unless necessary because education is important. Dropping out of high school seems to be a big problem in the United States as there are 1.2 million students a year dropping out of high school. the United States high school dropout rate has seemed to go down in the last 3 years. This topic has interested me a lot and I feel more knowledgeable about this subject.
