Throughout the millennium, there were many incredible scientists. But one scientist, in particular, is Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla was born on July 10th, 1856 in Croatia. His father was a priest, but his mother was an inventor that made labor shortening inventions. Tesla credited his mom as the source of his mechanical inspiration. When he was 5, he witnessed his older brother’s death in a horse-riding accident. After this, Tesla started seeing many flashes of light and color, making it hard for him to know what was real and what was not.

A long time later in his life, he started working for the Continental Edison Company in Paris. While there he worked on stuff like electric lighting and then he was hired by Edison in New York to repair or improve generators. He then quit working there due to the working conditions (mostly mentally) and after a couple of years, he started digging ditches just to survive where he came up with an idea. He made an Alternating Current (AC) which automatically dug ditches for him and was hired by Westinghouse for $2,000 ($58,205.74 current USD). Tesla was now extremely wealthy and able to fund his own research. In 1891 he patented the Tesla Coil which transferred wireless electricity which he wanted to transmit power like this through any distance without wires. He failed as someone beat him to making it but at one of Tesla’s birthday parties, he has announced that he had made a motor that ran on cosmic rays and a helmet that photographs thoughts. A couple of years later, Tesla died at the age of 86.

I chose the write about Nikola Tesla because he was a very inspirational character to me (the writer of this essay). One reason is because Tesla was a smart engineer creating many different gadgets and gizmos. Another reason is because Tesla worked through tough times because when he was digging ditches, he invented a machine that automatically dug ditches for him. Also, as a small child (5-8 years old) I always wanted to be an engineer and Tesla, was one of the best ones I knew (FROM TEXTS AND STUFF NOT IN REAL LIFE).

Even though many new scientists and engineers arrived, I still think Tesla is one of, if not the best one out there. Even though he died his inventions and gadgets still help us now. He also may still inspire many other young people with all his accomplishments.
