Osha was passed in 1970 by president Richard nixon. There were a few reasons for it’s passing. One was because of the increase of workplace accidents following WWII. HIPPA was passed in 1996 by president Bill Clinton. It’s purpose is to regulate the transfer of medical records between hospitals Along with helping people carry over their insurance when switching between companies. Another purpose of HIPAA is to recognize and enforce patients rights. It started in the early 1990s. With the advances in technology it became apparent that the medical industry would become more efficient with computerized medical records. This and the apparent needs of the medical industry to increase standards when dealing with healthcare data. These standards also increased the patient's right to medical privacy. HIPAA is important to workers in the medical field due to it dictating the standard when handling patients' medical records. (Hipaa: History and consequences of violation)

It’s important for people getting into the medical field to have at least a basic understanding of these three laws. If these laws are violated it can lead to the loss of one's license, fines, and or jail time. And thanks to these laws the patients quality of care has improved drastically.
