Essay Sample about Romanticism and Art

Imagine bright colors, wild emotions, individualism, and romantic feelings splattered down on a canvas. Or literature about heroes and showing nationalism. Even music with light harmonies and beats, music that makes you recognise the composer immediately. This is all Romanticism. Romanticism was developed in the late 18th century and it quickly became popular within European countries. In a more formal definition, Romanticism is artwork, literature, or music that shows a deep appreciation for nature, and feelings and emotions. 

Many artists arose during this time period and produced beautiful works. One very well known artist was Caspar Davis Freidrich. He was born September 5, 1774, and died May 7, 1840. He painted mostly landscape pictures but was big on the idea of Sublime. Sublime is when subjects feel strong emotions about how they are helpless and have no control over their lives when facing powerful forces of nature. One of his most famous pieces of art was The Sea of Ice or also known as The wreck of Hope (The History of Art). This painting is supposed to represent northern nature and its amazing beauty. This painting clearly shows sublime because the humans and the boat stood no chance at getting through the frozen oceans.

Authors were also able to come forth and make their masterpieces show Romanticism. A famous writer was William Wordsworth. He was born April 7, 1770, and died April 23, 1850. William contributed to Romanticism art because in many of his poems he wrote about how to see and perceive true nature. He is credited to be called the “Poet of nature”. His most famous poem was The Prelude. It is him telling the story of his childhood and how he became a writer but it also shows Romanticism qualities. It shows all of his flaws and his fears but it also shows his ambitions and passions (Wordsworth). 

Music about Romanticism was also a result of this time period. One famous composer was Hector Berlioz. Born December 11, 1803, and died March 8, 1869. A lot of Hector's music has lively imaginations but also tells stories about hard times and despair. Symphonie Fantastique is Hector's most famous orquested song. His song was very popular and it gave many people the vibe of happiness and dreamlike hallucinations. This clearly shows Romanticism. 

In conclusion Romanticism was a work of art in all categories. It was clearly shown in paintings, literature, and music. This artwork was big on making people feel happiness and learn to appreciate nature. Without this time period and its influence on the arts our world would not be the same today.
