At the intersection of Missouri State Highway 37 and State Highway C, lies the entrance to a small, scenic town, Purdy, MO. Highway C leads through many pleasing sights of the old town. Purdy consists of a fairly small population size, much like a village. Outdated architecture and great well-kept panoramic views make up most of the town. Purdy is an unusual place to visit; the small town consists of a mysterious house, a rusty, weathered down playground, and a rocky artificial water fountain.

Two tall stop signs are located on each side of Highway 37, which goes north to south, Highway C is stopped by the two bright red octagons and runs perpendicular to 37. To the east of 37, off of C, lies a mid-sized, tan-ish grey-ish building with “Dollar General” in big bold letters on a vibrant yellow rectangle. The convenient store marks the beginning of the passage through the town that holds exquisite yet odd sites. Travelling further down Highway C, about a few hundred feet down, off to the right, an abandoned, mustard-yellow colored habitation stands out from the rest of the common households. As one gets in closer range of the odd home, a strong rotten egg aroma can be seen escaping from the gaps between the hammered down wooden boards, where windows once used to be. “KEEP OUT” is written in dripping, bloody-red spray paint on the outer walls of the house. One of the wooden boards appears to be broken, as if someone took an axe and chopped it down. The inside floor is fully covered in torn up denim jeans, plain discolored t-shirts with holes, and the leftover soles of men’s shoes. The decaying remains of rodents lie on top of the pieces of old garments. Leaving the abandoned house, further down the road rests a small artificial water fountain off to the opposite side from where the house stands.

The rocky water fountain lies at the edge of a long stone brick sidewalk leading from an incomplete entrance on the north side of the small park. Trees are lined up parallel to each side of the walkway. The fountain itself is about ten feet in diameter, has big rocks stacked on top of each other, a faux bald eagle spreading its wings, and light grey boulders surround the perimeter of the water fountain. Water flows and sprinkles off into the boulders, creating a texture that feels as if a little kid was playing with slime and spilled it. The water sounds like heavy pouring rain coming from the sky. Since the fountain is man-made, the water should be clean and possibly smell like chlorine, but has the scent of lake water, the smell of fish. This miniature park is not the only one in the town of Purdy.

Across the road, from the water fountain, stands a dull red train caboose. To the left side of it, the new police station sits, which used to be the town’s public library. Behind the bland, brick building, a swing makes a loud creaking sound as it sways back and forth with the wind gusts. The rusted swing set pushes its iron particles with the wind into one's mouth. Pebbles from the ground have the sensation of when one steps on Legos while barefoot. The barrier, separating the pebbles from the green lawn, is invisible. Short grass now squeezes in between the small stones and starts to invade the pebbles’ territory.
