Nowadays, Suicide among teenagers is considered to be the third cause of mortality, and new evidence shows an increase in suicide cases internationally and locally. In my research process, I have found many articles about the concept of suicidality among teenagers, and these articles have many similar assumptions and data. The studies illustrated that from the different forms of suicidality like suicidal thoughts, plans, or actions, investigators could indicate the suicidal risk factors that teenagers face like depression, anxiety, hyperactivity disorder, etc. Also, the researchers started to consider and assess the aspect of gender differences between boys and girls, so they found that gender variation and abnormal behaviors like having problems with expressing feelings or communicating with others are more likely to be found in boys than girls. Moreover, researchers figured out that boys are more likely to commit suicide with the intent of dying while girls are more likely to have suicidal thoughts. So, the concept of suicidality in teenagers means when teenagers intentionally kill themselves. Teenagers may experience suicidal thoughts before ending up their lives by committing suicide; suicidal thoughts or plans mean having suicidal tendencies. The last phase of suicide is when teenagers have suicidal behaviors that will lead to mortality eventually. Suicidality has different degrees and extents among teenagers; however, they are successively connected.

Suicidal ideation or thought sometimes includes a previous planning. Thoughts can extend from having a clear and detailed plan to having a single passing thought without certainly attempting suicide. Many teenagers have suicidal thoughts, mainly when they are under stressful situations dealing with mental disorders like depression and mood disorders. Depression strikes teenagers at some point in their lives. Depression can take many shapes, ranging from severe unhappiness to a biological imbalance in the brain. So, as a result, when teenagers feel pressured, lost, or have a problem that they can not handle by themselves, they feel depressed. Eventually, depression or mood imbalance will stimulate teenagers to have suicidal thoughts and think to quit their dilemmas by killing themselves. Therefore, suicidal ideations usually emerge from depressive disorders. Suicidal ideation has two forms which are Passive Suicide Ideation and Active Suicide ideation. Passive Suicide Ideation is when teenagers have suicidal thoughts or self-harming thoughts, although they do not plan to act on them. In contrast, Active Suicide Ideation is when teenagers have suicidal thoughts with detailed plans to act upon them.

Suicidal attempts and behaviors sometimes may include parasuicide, like self-injuring behaviors without a consequent intent of dying. Suicidal attempts are the maximum degree of suicidality since, at this phase, teenagers suffer from very high levels of depression. They start entirely to lose hope in their lives and have no goals to achieve. From this point, they begin to question themselves and see if they are happy with their lives or not. If not, they will attempt suicide without even thinking about its consequences. Suicidal attempts with the potential of dying are widespread in boys since, considering gender differences, boys have lower self-control than girls, making them impulsive about committing suicidal actions. Suicidal attempts are lined with severe risks like aggressive disorders and being extremely violent with people, even the close ones. Suicidal attempts or actions among teenagers can be elevated to homicide which means killing another member of the family or even a stranger.

To sum up, suicide is a crucial topic that needs to be addressed in every society since it is one of the highest of death globally. It is increasing dramatically and internationally, especially in the COVID pandemic. Since people were socially isolated and depressed with the number of people who died in that period, in my opinion, suicide must be addressed in its initial phase, which is suicidal Ideation, as this is the root of the dilemma. I think the concept of suicidality among teenagers will help me to address my research more deeply since now I can understand the different forms of suicide.
