“3,748 scientists in the Pew Research Center found out 89% in the poll favored the use of animals in scientific research.” Animals are affected by the testing to ensure that cure and treatment are safe. It occurs at laboratories in universities, medical schools, government facilities, and commercial facilities and happens when to make sure that the cures/treatments are safe and effective. “To develop and test potential forms of treatment.” “To understand the complex questions of disease progression, genetics, lifetime risk, or other biological mechanisms of a whole living system would be unethical.” Some people believe that animal testing is abusing and harming animals. “The animals in experiments are subjected to force-feeding, deprivation of food and water, burns, and others to see the healing process, infliction of pain to study the effects, remedies”, etc. While it may be true, it was needed for people to find out ways to treat wounds and find a cure for some diseases. Animal testing shouldn’t be banned because it contributes to cures and treatments, often better test subjects than humans, and animals are treated humanely.

Most cures and treatments in the US use about 26 million animals a year for scientific research and commercial testing. According to the California Biomedical Research Association, “nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals.” Should Animals be used for Scientific or Commercial Testing? “Animal research has contributed to major advances in treating breast cancer, brain injury, childhood leukemia, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis, and more.” Should Animals be Used for Scientific or Commercial Testing? “Was instrumental in the development of pacemakers, cardiac valve substitutes, and anesthetics.” This proves that animal testing contributed to cures and treatments and it proves that Animal testing helped create cures and treatments.

“Animals are better test subjects than humans because they are susceptible to many of the same conditions and illnesses” as humans. Should Animals be Used for Scientific or Commercial Testing? “Chimpanzees share 99% of their DNA with humans, and mice are 98% genetically similar to humans.” Should Animals be Used for Scientific or Commercial Testing? “All mammals, including humans, are descended from common ancestors, and all have the same set of organs (heart, kidneys, lungs, and others) that function in essentially the same way with the help of a bloodstream and central nervous system.” According to Should, Animals Be Used for Scientific or Commercial Testing? “Animals and humans are so biologically similar, they are susceptible to many of the same conditions and illnesses, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.” This shows that animals and humans are similar to each other and that they can get the same conditions and illnesses because humans have the same set of organs as animals since they have the same common ancestor.

Animals that are in animal testing are made sure to be treated humanely. According to Rachel Rubino “Most people who work with research animals love those animals… We want to give them the best lives possible and treat them humanely.” According to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s animal research facility “Dogs are given exercise breaks twice daily to socialize with their caretakers and other dogs, ‘toy rotation program’ provides play opportunities.” This proves that dogs “in the animal research facility are treated humanely and the dogs are given exercise, socialize with others, and play.”

Testing on animals shouldn’t be banned because of the contribution to cures and treatment for conditions, DNA similar to humans, and that the animals are made sure to be treated humanely. It proves that animal testing has contributed to treating many conditions, shows that, animals have also the same DNA as humans and that they can get the same conditions and illnesses. Shows that they treat them the best lives possible while treating them humanely. Important because the dogs are given an exercise break twice daily so that they can socialize with others and be able to play. Animal testing has saved millions of animals from Vaccines tested on animals and been instrumental are saving endangered species. “AVMA endorses that animal testing to develop safe drugs, vaccines, and medical devices.” If 89% of the 3,748 scientists by the Pew Research Center poll favored the use of animals in scientific research, why would people still think it should be banned or not allowed?
