Essay Sample: Evaluation the Justifications Put Forward for Holocaust Denial

Holocaust deniers justify the actions of the genocide by claiming ‘lack of proof’, however the deniers are not credible on a account of  no denier classified as a valid historian, claims of evidence being faked or fabricated and no proof that Nazi’s used gas chambers for mass murder. The Holocaust or Shoah, was a dire genocide that took place during World War 2 from 1941 to 1945. The victims of this genocide were European Jews and they had pnly become victim of this mass murder simply because that their faith was what Christians viewed and anomally. This hatred began during the middle ages and then when Adolf Hitler was appointed Germany’s chancellor by the Nazi party, he brought his anit-semtismic ideas with intent to demolish the Jewish population. However, many years later, several people denied the existence of the Holocaust and justified reasons such as lack of evidence or fabricated information for this awful event. Most not if then all of their claims were flawed and merely prejudicial. 

It’s been factually proven that practically all Holocaust deniers that claim to be historians are not recognized in the academic world, which leads us to believe that their ‘justifications’ are not reliable. David Irving can be considered the most distinct Holocaust denier historian and he never even earned a college degree. He became a prominent man only for his views on the Holocaust. Driven by these views and his anit-semitism he wrote a series of books that were written from the Nazi- German view on the Holocaust that were completley full of misinformation. Irving’s controversial views led him to encounter a string of legal battles from 1989- 2006,  resulting in him being  banned from entering several countries, being  fined and also put to jail. All this coming from his perspective that the Holocaust was non-existent and if it did exist, he wrote in his books that Hitler had very little to do with it. At age 25, Irving published his first international bestseller, ‘The Destruction of Dresden’, which was about the Allied bombing raids that demolished the city Dresden, Saxony. Gaining a reputation as a historian here was completely invalid as he downgraded the death-toll to 50,000-100,000 from 100,000-250,000. And so the misinforming to the public by Irving, started. The ‘authentic’ author didn’t even take blame and rather put it on Dresden's Deputy Chief Medical Officer, who proposed it as rumors. The disconnection between Irving’s sources along with his prejudiced opinions, label all his books as inaccurate, non-reliable and biased. Therefore, if David Irving is the most prominent Holocaust denier historian, it’s certain that all others are just as and if not, more unreliable in their justifications.

The idea that Holocaust deniers say that any and all primary source documents on the Holocaust have been faked or fabricated is entirely inane. The Holocaust is the most well-known tragic genocide throughout history and there have been physical survivors with stories to tell that can be backed with heavy evidence, even primary sources. To disregard the 6 million Jewish deaths, is a colossal imbalance in World War 2 history. It simply cannot be neglected. Except, the authenticity of Holocaust documents from that time can be proved. There are over 3000 documents that had explicit detail on the attacks planned for Jews. With 6 million total deaths, calculating the number of deaths everyday would be a strenuous task to report and as a result there were no documents created for this. However, Jewish governments would rely on aftermath investigations, census accounts and other population-related reports. It is important to get the closest approximation of deaths to emphasize the tragedy that occurred. Moreover, there has been speculation that the diary of Anne Frank, whom was a victim of the genocide. Holocaust deniers explain that Franks diary was written in ball-point pen which was not commonly found in that decade. Even though Frank's father used ball-point pens, Frank didn’t for her diary. In their attempt to coax society of Anne Frank’s diary being fabricated they were ignorant of the hard evidence. The Holocaust denier’s inability to validate their statement of Anne Frank’s ‘fabricated’ diary shows how blatantly ignorant they were and this minimizes their credibility. Besides the documents, there are testimonies from survivors with first-hand experience and information that was released by Hitler’s ‘trusted’ troops. Holocaust deniers proposing that primary sources on the genocide being faked or fabricated is fatuous, taking into the account the number of credible proofs.

Holocaust deniers trying to push the fact that no Jew was ever terminated in a gas chamber is a false claim to justify the Holocaust’s occurrence. Gas chambers were a method used by the Nazi’s to terminate a mass amount of Jew’s at a time. Women, men and children would completely undress and be sentenced to the gas chambers which are then filled with ‘Zyklon B’ gas that killed everyone locked in. The reasons that they call the gas chamber event false follows, the fumigant Zyklon B wasn't a viable method of mass murder and how could bodies be taken from gas chambers mere minutes after if Zyklon B was so toxic. Immediately, it can be seen that their two points contradict each other which concludes to nonsense. Zyklon B is composed of hydrogen cyanide which is extremely toxic to humans and will kill them in mere moments, the science here is non-arguable so this claim is invalid. Soldiers with orders to take out the bodies from the gas chambers should at least wait 20 hours before removing the bodies so that clears up the fact that the bodies weren’t collected ‘mere minutes’ after death. There is an immense amount of flawed facts in the Holocaust deniers claims. They also recurrently mention the lack of evidence, but we have already proven their lack of reliability.

We concluded that David Irving, the most ‘well-known’ pro-Nazi historian is biased with a shameful track record making him an invalid source of Holocaust deniers interepretation. Also, how ignorant the deniers are with present evidence that disregard their claims completely, for instance the ‘fabrication’ of Anne Frank's diary. Furthermore, their denial of gas chamber use for the termination of Jewish people, where their justifications are that ‘Zyklon B gas isn’t a viable mass murder method.’ and ‘If Zyklon B gas was so toxic as made out to be, how were bodies removed mere minutes after death?’, clearly both these statements contradict each other and result in drivel. The justifications made from Holocaust denialism are outdated from current knowledge and hard evidence or were always false but pushed through anti-semitic communities and convinced particular people that the conspiracy is historically factual when in reality it indeed isn’t.
