Essay Sample: Homelessness as a Social Problem

Homelessness is an unfortunate aspect of our country that causes division. Homelessness is defined as being poor and homeless or unemployable due to a lack of secure, safe, and suitable accommodation. Homelessness is a unique type of poverty in which people lack personal connections and financial means. These people frequently have no one to turn to for shelter or help. They are people who have been through a traumatic situation and need assistance in getting back on the right path. My movement is named “People over Property” it's about informing others about the situation of people who are homeless and how we can help by building tiny houses. I selected my injustice because I feel that what happens at home affects how you perceive things in other places; for many people, home is a sacred area where they may relax and find peace. However many people lack access to housing, this may have an impact on their efforts in other areas. I feel that your morality is influenced by your environment. My social movement demonstrates my belief that everyone deserves a place to call home so that they can give back to the community. Homelessness is an important issue to understand because it helps to make sense of the economic injustices in the world and form thoughtful opinions for themselves. As well as learning about homelesness gives people the chance to interact with the community and form service-learning partnerships. My list of demands are to fund, build tiny houses, protest and to sign petitions in order to make my movement successful. I put a lot of critical thinking into my poster for “People over Property” I drew a protest speaking out that housing rights are human rights with people holding signs. I also included tiny houses in the background because that is what my social movement wants to create. In addition, I included an eagle at the top of my picket to symbolize an ally for my social movement, because they are fierce and motivated as well as the United States of America flag as a background to represent our nation as a whole. To emphasize the message, I also wrote "Raise the Roof" on the eagle. On my picket, I intend to deliver the message that we must stick together as the rest of humanity and pay attention to homelessness.
