These days Abortion has been a very big talked about subject. When you find yourself in these discussions about abortions you will find that people label themselves into one of the two categories: Pro-Choice or on the other side of things Pro-Life. The term Pro-Choice according to the Oxford Languages definition, ‘is advocating for legallized abortion’. Pro- Life is defined as ‘opposing abortion and euthanasia’. The argument over whether abortion should be legal or illegal in the United States has recently been challenged once again, especially in the state of Texas with the newly added restrictions on abortion. Of which has angered many who do not even reside in Texas. Caused by recent events and decisions that has taken place in Texas women are banned from the act of termination of a pregnancy after the first sign of a heart beat, which is six weeks. The issue with this law is that most women even in this modern century women are not aware that they are bearing child in less than six weeks. Leaving a very miniscule window of time to have even the possibility of having an abortion basically complety taking away a womens decision to an abortion. In this essay we will be discussing why abortion should be legal.

Abortion is a womans rights issue. When you look into the government representation the majority speaking on abortion are men. When you look into percentages of woman, there are 25 percent women who are in the national congressional seats, 33 percent of women in the supreme court, and only 18 percent of state governor's. We need more women in representation when it comes to the discussion to a womans rights. Even when women are given the legal right to abortion in many places they are severely limited and reglulated in one way or another to access a safe abortion. Many states find indirect ways to restrict the access for women to have the right to an abortion. Many states have tried reducing the number of abortions when they got struck down by the supreme court. States combat this by finding loopholes like cutting funding to organizations that perform abortions like planned parenthood. Illegalization or restriction of abortion severely damages a womans right to their own body and their own choice.

As Sarah Weddington once said to the supreme court in Roe v Wade “A pregnancy to a woman is perhaps one of the most determinative aspects of her life. It disrupts her body. It disrupts her education. It disrupts her employment. And it often disrupts her entire family life." Pregnancy affects women in more ways than one. When a woman goes through a pregnancy not only is it physically demanding, but emotionally and financially demanding. The impact a pregnancy can have on a woman it is a great concern for a woman to have the choice on whether they would like to do with their own body

Say if abortions were illegal, where are these children who are brung into this planet as a result of unwanted pregnancies supposed to go? Our foster care systems are overflowing. Not to mention they are not the friendliest and best place for kids to grow up. Many children who have been in the foster care system have and may currently be facing serious abuse and neglect. Statistics show in surveys going back for decades 25 to 40 percent of former foster children have reported being abused or neglected in care. Many children in the system are abused in one shape or form. Currently we have about roughly 500,000 children in the foster care system in United States. If Abortion were to become legal and woman were having to carry on unwanted pregnancies, these numbers would skyrocket. As if our foster care system was not already a huge problem, many more children will be put to the risk of being sexually, physically, or even emotionally abused.

How would you feel if you were to be into someone else's shoes. The percentage of woman who get raped in the United States is probably not as low as you would think. What if a woman had to sadly endure rape then having to carry out the pregnancy of a child of their rapist. This is emotionally damaging for a woman. Or what about if a thirteen year old girl were to get pregnant after being failed on being properly educated on safe sex. Having to bear a child even though her own body isn't fully developed to take on a thing like that. Being pregnant at such a young age has health risks to both the mother and the baby. Some abortions are even medically necessary in some cases women can not endure pregnancy without putting their own lives at risk and having a good chamce of not making it out the pregnancy alive. Do we force them to do in childbirth and do not give them the option to opt out of it?

Some may argue that abortion is murder, what I say to that is that belief is completely circumstantual to your own personal beliefs. This statement could be disputed for ages because this is completely based on opinion. Until what point is it murder? What makes a human being human and when does human life begin? Some people argue that a fetus is not a human being until it has a heartbeat, some say at conception, others say not until the baby is born, and some say at the second trimester.  There is no stated fact  of when a human life begins and termination of a oregano gets constituted as murder.

Many people who oppose abortion is for religious reasons. Many people argue that abortion is against religious beliefs. To that I say, we are not all the same. We all have different religious standpoints. You have yours and I have mine, your religious beliefs should not impose on another persons beliefs. If you do not believe in abortion you are not forced to participate in the act of termination of a pregnancy, but you should not be able be able to rule over whether or not a woman who was completely different beliefs than your to not have the right to an abortion.

In light of this information, women should have the right to abortion. The argument over whether abortion should be legal or illegal has recently been challenged in Texas again with the newly added restrictions on abortion. Even when women are given the legal right to abortion in many places they are severely limited and reglulated in one way or another to access a safe abortion. The fight for reproductive freedom still continues. If you do not believe in abortion you are not forced to participate in the act of it, but you should not be able be able to rule over whether or not a woman who was completely different beliefs than yours to not have the right to an abortion. Think about all of the woman in all kinds of different situations that are affected by the illegalization of abortions. Your voice could help fight for reproductive freedom.
