Let us go back  2000 years ago to a time in European history where the empire of Macedonia dominated Europe and Northern Africa.  The year is 357 BCE and King Philip II is King of Macedon. Philip II was about to have a baby that will be remembered in history as the greatest warrior of all time.

Alexander the Great  was born long ago(356 BCE) in a land far away called Pella. Pella was a beautiful small state in Ancient Greece which had fine houses and respectable people.  At a young age, he was tutored by Aristotle, one of the greatest philosophers and scholars of his time. When he was 12, people reported about a horse that was literally untamable, like no one could tame it or even come near it(that is one wild horse), but Alexander was able to tame it effortlessly, and it became his horse known as Bucephalus.

In 340 BCE, while his father, Philip II was away, he took control of the empire called Macedonia.  During this time, he defeated the people of Thrace in Greece. When his father came back, he took back control until a revolt happened, in which his life ended. Alexander seized the throne and he immediately ordered the execution of all who were involved in his father's death.   Alexander was now King of Macedon.

Around this time, he began the invasion of Persia. In 334 BCE, he marched through the continent of Asia Minor and began the epic battle for Achaemenid Persia.  He defeated the Persian army at the Battle of Granicus, and went on to liberate the lands in that area. Even though Alexander had enough Persian land, he wanted more, so he again fought Persian forces, under their King Darius III, at the Battle of Issus. Again, it resulted in Macedonian victory. This was the beginning of the end for the Persian Empire. For his final blow, Alexander’s forces met King Darius’s at Gaugamela where he earned a decisive victory and took control of all of Persia. King Darius III was on the run, and he told his remaining forces that hadn’t been vanquished that he wanted to have another battle with Alexander somewhere else, but his own ally killed him before he could. Alexander was now literally the most powerful man in the world.

He eventually went on to conquer Egypt and found a city called Alexandria. His horse, Bucephalus died in 326 BCE, he founded a city called Alexandria Bucephalus in honor of his horse´s memory. Man, I wish I could have a horse like that. During that time he fell in love with a young girl named Roxanne, he described her as having a honey lemon scent, her touch as soft as a fur pillow, and her face chiseled with perfection. He  married several other women for land and popularity. He eventually settled down in a city called Babylon with all of his wives. Alexander, in his later years, held a lot of drinking banquets or parties, in which he invited noble people to have fun for his amusement. In 323 BCE, after one of his long and incredibly unhealthy drinking bouts, Alexander fell gravely ill and died after 14 days of pain and suffering. After his death, his empire was divided into 4 lesser ones, Ptolemaic Egypt, the Seleucid Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and Macedon. Alexander  was buried in Alexandria. He was significantly remembered to be one of the greatest conquerors in history.

So in my final statement, I believe what we can take away from this time in history, is to always work hard to reach your goals or objectives. Alexander's desire was to conquer all of Persia, which he achieved with time,  hard work, and a whole lot of battles. Remember, never give up on your goals and always fight hard for them.
