Cricket is arguably one of  most popular sports in the world with over 2.5 billion followers and over 100 countries that play it. Cricket is played on circular grounds. There is a rectangular area in the middle of the ground, called the pitch, which is the most important part of the field because that's where the batting and bowling take place. The materials needed to play cricket are a set of wooden sticks, called stumps and bails, placed on both ends of the pitch with batters standing in front of them, a cricket ball made of wood and leather, and a wooden bat are required to play the sport the one optainal thing needed to play cricket is a full set of protective gear. Two important points in cricket are that it was created in the thirteenth century and it became England's national sport in the seventeenth century. Cricket is a very interesting sport!

There are always five different types of people on the field: the batsmen, bowlers, fielders, wicket-keeper, and the umpire. There are two batsmen on the field and their job is to hit the ball when it is their turn and run after they hit the ball. There is only one bowler on the field and his or her job is to throw the ball. There are nine fielders on the field and their job is to throw the ball to the wicket keeper, catch the ball, and prevent the ball from going to the boundary. There is one wicket keeper on the field and his or her job is to catch the ball and try to get a run out (definition in next paragraph) on the batter. Lastly, the umpire's job on the field is to see if someone is out, keep track of the scoring, and make sure everybody is following the rules, there are actually more people making decisions for the game there is only one umpire in the field. Other people on the field include coaches and cameramen recording the game. The most important position in the field is the umpire because they make all the decisions and keep track of the game.If you could pick which position would you pick (Personally I would pick being the umpire)!

The two main objectives of cricket are winning the game and getting your opponents out. At the end whoever has the most runs wins. You can get 1-3 runs by running one run is equal to both of the batters running to the other side of the pitch. 2 ways you can get 4 runs is when the ball rolls to the boundary (which is the outer part of the field) and touches it and if the ball goes.beyond the boundary but the ball already touched the field. The most runs you can get is six in one ball; you can get six runs by hitting the ball so it goes beyond the boundary without touching the field.  Four of the most simple ways to get out in cricket are bowled, caught, runout and lbw. When getting bowled the ball hits the wickets (stumps) and you get out. The second way you can get out is when the ball gets caught in the air without ever touching the ground after you hit the ball. The third way to get out is to get run out. You get runout when you try to run for runs. If your bat does not touch the white line in the pitch and one of your opponents manages to get the ball to touch the wicket then that's a run out. The fourth and final way to get out is when you get an lbw which simply stands for leg before wicket. The name gives it away, it is when the ball hits your leg and your leg is before the wicket.

Cricket is a really interesting sport with a lot to do. Of course I didn’t cover every single fact about cricket like the history and the rules. Cricket is a lot more complicated than soccer and football combined where in cricket there are so much more variables that affect the game. The most important thing in cricket is again winning the game and getting your opponents out. The five different types of people on the field are batters, bowlers, fielders, wicket-keepers and the umpire. Next time you play outside and you don’t know what to play try playing cricket because it is fun and entertaining for all ages.
