Drinking and driving has been severely impacting many years after year especially now.  Being intoxicated can affect many parts of daily life including reaction time or thought process.  And can give false sense of feelings or actions.  Being under the influence is the main cause of fatal car crashes,especially when in the hands of a young inexperienced driver.

When an intoxicated person makes the decision to sit behind the wheel of a vehicle, he/she puts many lives in danger. This one decision, which may seem harmless, may have a crucial impact on others lives.  Over the years there has been an increase in fines for drunk driving,studies have shown that underage drivers are 17% more likely to be involved in a fatal car crash with alcohol or drugs  in their system.  Although driving laws have become more strict,and there's been an uprising to stop drinking and driving, it still seems to be a big  issue especially in the lives of teenagers.  Mainly because people don't seem to see the danger that they are placing themselves and others by driving drunk even if it was just a couple drinks.

The fact remains we cannot completely solve the problem of drunk driving due to the disobedient many portray especially when it comes to this topic. We live in a time period where drinking and drug use are seen as the new norm for everyone, or a symbol of being cool or different.  This is one of the main causes young adults ranging from the ages 16-21 make poor decisions and don't take accountability for the things they do.  willpower,and Judgment becomes impaired the more intoxicated an individual is which leads to many problems.  Also the majority of DUI stops are due to individuals not believing that they are drunk or have over drunk.

Therefore, as seen, the influence of drinking and driving  is the main cause of tragedies ,especially when in the hands of a young inexperienced driver.  The prevention of drunk driving does not lie on how strict the laws are, but on education.  The education of young drivers,and how to correctly teach them that irresponsible decisions can result in major tragedies which include taking people's lives or their own.
