Scientists say that we may be in a mass extinction and to be exact it might be the sixth one, and the cause for this mass extinction is what most of us wouldn’t have expected, it was caused by all of us. Animals are dying much faster than they are supposed to, causing their population to go extinct much faster. Giving me a stronger reason as to why there will be a sixth mass extinction The good news is that we might be able to slow down the extinction rate of animals. Although, significant amounts of carbon dioxide emissions are rising and that can lead to a mass extinction if critical amounts of carbon dioxide are added to the ocean. But, I can eat less meat and dairy food to reduce agriculture clear-cutting of rainforests which can help slow down the process of the 6th mass extinction, which I think is a very simple way that might actually save you more money too because you aren’t eating as much meat.

There should be a reason that we should all eat less meat because first, we are killing animals and eating them. Plus, some of the animals may carry viruses with them and that can result in pandemics that can kill the population of us humans. The reason we are in a pandemic is because of people killing animals and eating them and it happens to be that those animals carry diseases. Eating meat can prevent mass extinction because when we produce meat it has an impact on the climate, this is because when we produce meat it contains methane from bovine stomachs, and it also releases carbon from deforestation and fossil-fueled machinery. In conclusion, this means that eating more meat can increase the speed of global warming.

If we continue eating the same amount of meat and dairy products, in 80 years 9 percent of some of the planet’s most biodiverse natural land, 95 percent of which is in the tropics, will be cleared for agricultural purposes as the demand for animals products steadily increases. If we reduce meat and dairy consumption it can have positive effects on greenhouse gas emissions, it can also help with human health. It also will help biodiversity which is needed to ensure that the world’s population is fed. Changing the types of food we eat can lead to a more liveable future, and can help with food security goals, and also address global food inequalities. As mentioned earlier, replacing meat with another alternative food will result in a reduction in global agricultural land demand, which may be reduced by 11 percent.

Eating lots of meat can lead to risks of obesity, cancer, and heart diseases. Not if that was bad enough it also makes the planet sick. Raising cows, pigs, and chickens generates as much greenhouse gases emissions as trucks, cars, and automobiles all combined. Even though we can’t make everyone stop eating meat and we can reduce the amount of meat that we are eating. Moving towards foods that are more plant based so that they can help with climate change, soil, air, water pollution, ocean dead zones, and other problems caused by livestock production. If we do happen to eat less meat and dairy products it can have a huge impact on the environment and not only that it can also give us better health. Climate change is also the main reason for a mass extinction because in the end-Permian extinction most of the organisms have died due to abnormally high temperatures. This was caused by a series of volcanic eruptions that spit out poisonous greenhouse gases. Because of how much carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere, if we continue at the same rate we could all face extinction around 2070 from climate change.

In summary, I do think that we are in a sixth mass extinction because of all the things that we are doing currently that can potentially lean towards a sixth mass extinction. Still, reducing the amount of meat and dairy products we eat can reduce agriculture’s clear-cutting of rainforests. Scientists say that without meat and dairy consumption, global farmland use could be reduced up to 75%, and we would still be able to feed the world. An up to date analysis shows that meat and dairy products provide 18% of calories and 37% of protein, but it uses 83% of farmland and it also produces 60% of the agricultural’s greenhouse gas emissions. Scientists also say that even the lowest impact meat and dairy products still cause more environmental damage than the least sustainable vegetables. Eating less meat or going on a vegan diet will probably be the best way to reduce your impact on our Earth, it doesn’t only help with greenhouse gasses, but it also helps with land use and water use. Doing this is much better than taking fewer flights or buying an electric car because then that will only cut greenhouse gas emissions. Given the number of possibilities that can make our Earth go extinct, are you willing to help and do your best to make a change in stopping a possible mass extinction?
