As soon as someone first walks inside this building, the first thing she/he will see is there are wooden bookshelves everywhere. They look to be made from real wood; the texture feels rough with a gloss finish. The books on the shelves have paper covers with wrinkles so deep as a 60-year-old woman. The smell of the mall is so refreshing, like a person buying a new pair of shoes, but the bookstore is one of my favorite shopping centers inside the mall. Every kid follows their parents around when they have to get maybe a present for a family member, clothes for an important invite, or just to kill time. But I love the mall because it’s the place where I go when I’m bored, sad, or free. And it gives me great pleasure to write about this place because I spent most of my childhood in and out of this beautiful establishment. So, I can also show anyone the changes this place, especially the bookstore has gone through over the years. But I’m going to talk about the one main shopping center that I go to first, so I can maybe get someone to go.

The bookstore is the only store in the mall that I can remember first coming to when I was younger. Soon as I walk inside, I go to the second bookshelf from the left and get a book off the last shelf. I always get my books from this bookshelf because the shelves are separated by non-fiction, fiction, and novels. And this is the non-fiction section that gets most of the customers’ attention. The fiction books are on the right and the novels are in front of the non-fiction bookshelf’s but they’re on short shelves. The drama, romance, and mystery books are in front on the fiction shelves but they’re also on the short shelves. There are two black leather chairs with matching foot stands and couches between the non-fiction and fiction shelves and short shelves.

The one thing I don’t like about this bookstore is the old lady at the cash register with a horrible attitude. She looks to be over 50 with gray hair and big 80s’ glasses that hang over her nose. I always notice that she wears clothes like pencils skirts and blouses that are a little too small for size. Her name tag on her left chest is white and the name Hannah was writing in black Castellar front. She’s always mean for no reason to customers that come in. For example, I always go to the non-fiction section soon as a walk inside the store and try to look in see if there were new books on shelves. And out of nowhere she pops out from behind me and says, “please, do not be rough with the books and pick one not two”. The only response I gave her was a head nod.

My favorite thing to read in the bookstore is the comics. I’m more of a DC hero girl than Marvel because of Superman. Superman has always been my favorite hero and I really love his darker shade of blue costume that stripes most of the yellow/gold in his new armored bodysuit, and his high collar along with other extra bells and whistles. The problem with reading comics at the bookstore was the employees moving them around too much because of this one kid that always rip them. The kid is around 6 years old with blonde hair, blue eyes, short hair, and looks to be 5 feet in height. He’s always here at the bookstore with his mother. The woman has long black hair that’s mid-back, blue eyes, and she’s 3 inches taller than her son. The only reason she comes to the bookstore is for magazines, which is located next to the cash register on the left sitting on a black stand. She’s always wearing professional clothes like pants suits, pencil skirts with a blazer and blouse, 3-inch heels, and no jewelers. I always try to stay to myself most of the time at the store, because it always a couple of people that make too much noise for no reason.

This bookstore will always have a place in my heart. It’s been the one place that I feel most comfortable and safe. And this bookstore is the only reason why I come to the Bel Air Mall. I always try getting my friends to come but they always say, “the only way I will read a book is if it was for a grade for a class”. So that’s why I’m writing about my favorite bookstore so that anyone else out there can have an opportunity to experience a good book in a comfortable environment.
