Envision this - you’re a race car driver and you’re driving around the track when suddenly, your car crashes and immediately flips out of control and catches on fire. Unfortunately, this was reality for Ryan Newman. NASCAR driving is one of those things where people either approve of or really dislike. But, auto racing doesn’t always have to be looked at from a negative perspective. As the years pass, technology and knowledge itself increases. Racecar drivers take multiple safety precautions and make sure that even in the worst situations, they will be safe. NASCAR is a sport loved by not only race car drivers but by many other Americans. This essay will prove that NASCAR driving shouldn’t be abolished and should be kept as a sport.

To begin with, NASCAR driving can be a safe sport as long as safety precautions are followed and all the race cars have safe equipment to protect them. Source 1, clearly states “NASCAR mandated that all drivers wear a head and neck restraint system called the HANS”. This is a very important mention because it explains that they have added a device to prevent the head and neck from moving around in a very dangerous way that could end up paralyzing the driver. Source 3 shows the “Dale Earnhart Crash” where he, unfortunately, wipes out and almost immediately dies instantly. This video proves that without any safety measures, race car drivers would be dying way more Frequently. All of the safety devices and precautions have been made because of incidents like Dale Earnhart’s. Some might say that a special device isn’t good enough and won’t ensure proper protection for the driver. But, in my defense, HANS isn’t the only device that was made to protect drivers, there is also a safer barrier for when drivers are making sharp turns, if there was a collision or accident, they wouldn’t be crashing into concrete but instead would be crashing into steel tubes and polystyrene foam. Are race car drivers really in as much danger as you thought they were?

Furthermore, Americans all over the country enjoy watching NASCAR races and the drivers themselves love their job too. In source 3, you can see that during the whole race, they were live, thousands maybe even millions of people were watching the race. This proves that countless amounts of people love the sport. Source 1, distinctly states “as a reminder that each driver is putting their life on the line every weekend”. This demonstrates that each and every driver is doing this dangerous sport because they love it and have a very special place in their heart for NASAR racing. Some might argue that abolishing this sport wouldn’t make a difference in America. In my defense, when thinking about the millions upon millions of people that sit down to watch these races each year, how could you take away something so valued by many? If you wonder whether this sport is really that important to people, just know it is and it isn’t something that you should just be getting rid of like that.

In conclusion, NASCAR racing is much safer with all of the safety measures and devices made to protect the drivers. Additionally, people all over the U.S. love and deeply care about this sport. Before you form a negative perspective against auto racing, think about the true meaning of race car driving and what it means to others.
