Every person, no matter if they notice it or not, has a set of rules they follow in their lives. They teach and lead them through their day-to-day actives and interactions. I have my own rules that I go by every day. Philosophical truths and maxims can teach and guide me in my life by teaching me new ways of thinking like one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, good things come in small packages, and actions speak louder than words.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure could allow multiple new ideas to flow into one’s mind. Not everyone has the same ideas and values as each other. “There's nothing I couldn't give you. Good things that come in small packages can have life-changing effects on anyone. One can have a great full idea, but they should start small and it will come to it eventually. Amazon, for example, started as an online bookstore selling books, primarily competing with local booksellers and Barnes & Noble. The Amazon we now know became an enormous corporation. They have warehouses all over the world and have thousands of orders a day. A new idea or challenge may show up in one’s life that seems like a small coincidence but could ultimately cause a life-changing experience. Harry Potter getting his Hogwarts letter can show this as well. When Harry received his Hogwarts acceptance letter, he had no idea what it was. When Hagrid came to take Harry to Hogwarts and told him where he came from, and it changed Harry’s whole life. “You’re a wizard Harry,” said Hagrid in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. It allowed him to know his past, get away from his aunt, uncle, and cousin, and opened numerous new opportunities for him. Some of the smallest of issues or even successes can affect anything in one’s life, life-changing or not.
Actions can speak louder than words and can have a vast effect. One may say they will do a life-changing act, but the actions they do can show what they truly mean. “I volunteer as tribute,” said Katniss Everdeen. When Katniss volunteers for her sister, she puts herself in the position to take action. When she says she will volunteer for her sister that acknowledged one part of it, but what she does while fighting shows her devotion. More experiences also show how actions have power over words’ life when one may share an idea that has them quite proud and happy, but what they show with their body language can model it in a seemingly harsh and angry way. If one allows their words to teach and their actions speak, they open countless opportunities to teach better. Philosophical truths and maxims can teach and guide me in my life in countless ways. Teaching me new ways of thinking like one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, good things come in small packages, and actions speak louder than words. The world will always have hundreds of more ways that it can act as a guide, but these come first to me. Everyone has their own, what determines them comes down to the person.
