Police brutality involves the use of unnecessary excessive force in the process of administering their duties where they are not supposed to against unarmed people of color. This could be because of racial profiling but we will never know because as people say cops are going to be cops. They will say they were doing their job but really are breaking the law by doing these things. The way they do these harsh things is by the use of guns, pepper spray, and more violent things they do to unarmed people. People are left wondering if the police are doing their jobs. Some argue that things are going misconstrued and the cops are just doing their job; and others argue that these crimes can be from not good training, and policies. It could be hate in some of the police officers or they're just racist. Sometimes these things go unnoticed until a video or something is posted years laters on social media. Half of the time the officers get away with these filthy crimes. This is a good topic to talk about because this is what the world has become to after everything that has already happened slavery, for example. We still have cops killing our people. I am an African man, and African Americans' lives are still being taken to this day in 2021. Police brutality is a problem that is still going on and should be stopped, because if we don’t things will get out of hand. When things get out of hand there will be protests, riots and when stuff like that happens people from around the cities all come together and destroy things because some things are for the police officers that there destroying.

One major problem that connects to police brutality is racial profiling which is the act of suspecting, targeting or discriminating against a person on the basis of their ethnicity or religion, rather than on individual suspicion. Racial profiling often involves discrimination against minority population and is based on any negative stereotypes of the targeted demographic. Police officers would stop African Americanson highways and in traffic to investigate other crimes then the reason they pulled them over for all because of their race, they don’t do this to white people. This has been going on for more than you think, African Americans have been dealing with racial profiling since cops were firstorganized in the United States. For example, unlawful searches are a big deal because if the cops smell alcohol on a person’s breath in the vehicle, then they could search the car to see if there are any open containers. The cops could lie and claim to smell alcohol or marijuana to search a vehicle without obtaining a warrant first,  And that’s where bigger problems happen. Another example is according to https://www.aclu.org/cases/driving-while-black-maryland is when the “Maryland state police stopped and searched a car driven by Robert Wilkins. The police refused to explain satisfactorily why they had decided to stop Wilkins for a petty infraction, and they refused to abide by his statement to them that he did not consent to a search of the vehicle when asked if he would do so. Him and his family were forced to stand by the roadside as the police searched the car, even using a drug-sniffing dog, treating them like criminal drug-smuggling suspects. Robert Wilkins was an attorney, steeped deeply in the law of search and seizures as part of his job at Washington’s prestigious Public Defender Service. When they refused to listen to Mr. Wilkins tell them what the law did and did not allow them to do, they bought themselves a federal civil suit.” Statistics found that while 17 percent of the driving population on the interstate highway in Maryland were black, 72 percent of those stopped and searched were black.

The reasons these things happen like police brutality and racial profiling is that Police brutality has been around for a long time, and for the same reasons, one being racism. The victims are usually Latinos or African Americans. As I brought up this in my thesis about cops not getting the right training when they need it for example when the Minnesota police chief said one of his workers “ Kim potter” had Daunte Wright pulled over and during the action she went to grab for her taser but she didn’t grab the taser she grabbed the gun and shot and killed Daunte Wright. First of all , I feel the police chiefs fault because that means you didn’t teach them the difference between a 40 glock and a taser. And I’m pretty sure she knew that she had a gun in her hand because when she grabbed it it was way much heavier, cops guns and tasers are located on there belt in position they can grab it. Did she not know where it was ? Was she taught that they were in different spots ? We will never know. Without proper training and ongoing changes, many law enforcement officers will maintain the same thought process that results in countless police brutality cases today.

Lack of accountability is the reason why people seem to fail at things that are important to them, they are simply not taking responsibility for their choices or lack of action on things that are critical to their success. When we avoid being accountable, we make a conscious decision not to do something and then another decision to downplay the importance of not following through. This is a cause because when cops do these things some if the don’t get charge so that makes others feel that it is right to do what they do if there just going to be able to walk like a free man, for example when George Zimmerman killed Trayvon martin, he didn’t get charged for murdering him all because he was black and had a hoodie on with no weapons. As young kids, ways for us to be accountable is by listening to our parents and doing what they say if not we will get in trouble. I feel that this is a thing that connects with police brutality because if these cops' parents are racist and when they were younger and told not to like people I’m pretty sure they didn’t like them. And now that they are cops, they feel they have the right to do anything they want to people.

Where has police brutality been happening the most ?  It has been effective almost everywhere in the United States but there are cities where it is happening the most. According to https://www.security.org/resources/police-brutality-statistics/2019 the “FBI did not keep or gather data from force being used by police officers. They only used data that was sent by other officers which was not much. Police have killed more than 9,000 people and about 1,095 per year since 2013-2020, In 2021 there were 307 killings. The city that has seen the highest amount of police killings is Los Angeles and they have 70 killings. They have killed at least 928 people since 2021 and only two of those were charged. Phoenix is second with 46 killings, the killings in philosophy Phoenix surged in 2020. Phoenix police appears in the top 10 for the rate at which police killed individuals in all three groups. The rate at which police kill Black people is far higher than the rate at which they kill white people. In some cases, the differences in fatal encounters with police in the U.S. are startling. In Utah police have killed blacks people at a rate of 26.7 per 100,000 since 2013, for whites it's 2.7 per 100,000. Police kill about 1,000 civilians every year”. In Almost every corner of the country, police kill Black, Native American, and Hispanic people at higher rates than white people.Officers rarely face legal accountability.

Police brutality has been a problem for the past several years, the issue is that there are innocent lives being taken for no reason, so these cops can feel better once they take the life of an innocent person.  The black community feels that the police are against them because most of the time they are and the statistics I have talked about explains a lot. If you're black and from the ghetto you're going to be scared that the police will stop you for something you didn’t do and they will try something that is unlawful to them and they will get away with it. The main problem is that when officers get away with these harmful things and not lose their job, this is making a gap between the community and the police that could become unfixable.
