Essay Sample on Secularism

Secularism is defined as ‘A doctrine that rejects religion and religious considerations’ (Merriam Webster) Secularists oppose all religions. Secularists believe that the number of individuals not attending church services proves that quite a large amount of people are no longer involved in religion. Per the national secular society, Secularism is a principle that involves two basic propositions. The primary is the government's strong isolation from religious organizations. The second is that before the law, individuals of various religions and beliefs are treated equally. Despite the very fact that secularism is largely acknowledged, it is not universally embraced. Religious individuals may perceive that secularism limits their religious liberty and regard the principle as an attack on their faith. 

Religion touched all elements of life because it was the key to understanding the world: how you lived, how you perceived yourself, how you connected with your friends and family, the meaning of life, and the distinction between right and wrong. Every aspect of existence had a sacred significance, and everyone was a part of it. Religion has always had the status of law, along with other legalities, from its inception. It is the source of law, and it is expected of everyone to follow the rules and regulations. It spans an individual's entire existence, from birth to daily activities and beyond. As a result of religion and its adherents, religious regulations have existed for centuries. 

Individuals argue that having a single state religion and being non-secular leads to a more peaceful and orderly society. To expand, the Middle East has adopted Islam as its official religion, with the Quran and Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) teachings serving as the law. Separating religion from state law has both advantages and disadvantages. The question of whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages is currently under discussion. The legislation will have no direct religious impact if the state and religion are separated. According to man-made religious conventions, it is not the law. Tolerance for other religions will be developed. Nepotism and segregation are examples of prejudice based on religious differences.

The state, on the other hand, will incur more costs if religion is not kept separate from the state. Other religions and practices are permitted less in predominately Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and Israel. Atheism, as well as insulting the religion, will be labeled heresy and may even be punishable by death, as shown during the church's overwhelming sway in Europe.

In today's world, secularism has caused the disintegration of once highly regarded morals. Sexual relationships are now openly carried out, allowing a couple to live together in the presence of their parents and other members of society. On the other side, non-secular and Old Europe was hostile to such a thing. Fornication and adultery are both regarded sins by religious authorities all over the world. As a result, while secularism may promote or increase individual autonomy, it does not protect them from life's harsh realities. In a religious and orderly community, such concerns do not exist; they do, but not in the same numbers as in secular government.
