We can honor the victims of the Holocaust by applying the lessons from history to modern-day problems. The two main reasons that we remember the victims of the Holocaust are to learn about past mistakes and to refuse to be silent so that history doesn’t repeat itself. People should also study how survivors of the Holocaust dealt with being treated horribly, we should use these lessons to show kids and adults what these people had to deal with, not too long ago. Starting off, don’t be silent and make sure that history doesn’t repeat itself. In the play The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne is expressing deep feelings about “her world of fear.” Anne wishes she were free to be herself and wishes she weren’t in hiding. On page 117, Anne states “I need to have something besides a husband and children to devote myself to! I don’t want to have lived in vain like most people. I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met.” Anne states this quote because she is in pain physically and mentally. She wishes someone would have stood up for the Jews. Anne just wants to express her feelings by talking to her friends instead of having them locked in a diary. This connects to anti-Semitism because the Nazis treated the Jews poorly for no reason at all. To wrap things up, don’t be silent and make sure that history doesn’t repeat itself. In the book “Night” by Elie Wiesel, Elie imagines a world with no one’s identity stolen from them. “We were no longer human beings, we were just four-digit numbers who would work all day and all night.”(Wiesel, 76). This powerful quote by Elie Wiesel shows what is going on inside his head. He feels as if the Nazis took his identity away, this also connects to Anti-Semitism again because he was poorly treated for no reason. At last, People should study how survivors of the Holocaust dealt with being treated horribly, we should use this information to show kids what these people had to deal with. This is because kids need to learn about these horrible events in order to know how badly Jews were treated because of their religion. Again, another strong and heartfelt lesson is to cherish relationships. The text “Night” by Elie Wiesel discusses the fact that family bonds are what matter most in life. “There was nothing else I wanted to do. I just wanted to be right by my father’s side” (Wiesel, 79). This evidence supports my lesson because it shows that family in life is what matters most. Elie could have let his father pass away alone, but he was by his side, and he made sure that their family bond was never broken. Finally, Elie Weisel teaches humans of all ages to cherish bonds and moments that matter most.
