LGBT people have come a long way, but the fight isn’t over yet. In today's world, the LGBT people's community has existed all over the United States and in other countries all over the world. LGBTQ Americans have faced many struggles with the discrimination they will learn to use past movements to help them get their equal rights.

LGBTQ people are still experiencing discrimination in 2016. “LGBTQ people still have face widespread discrimination: Between 11 percent and 28 percent of LGBTQ workers report losing a promotion simply because of theri sexual orientation, and 27 percent of transgender workers reporting being fired, not hired, or denied a promotion in the past year.” LGBT people being discriminated against in their jobs and being fired is hard fro them because of how they make earnings from their daily jobs. “Discrimination also routinely affects LGBTQ people beyond the workplace, sometime costing them their homes, access to education, and even the ability to engage in public life” This proves that it is not just about losing their work but also their home and the engagement in the public environment. Discrimination is still happening to LGBTQ people which affects their daily lives. Also being discriminated against has caused LGBT individuals to live in fear or scared of showing their true identity in public. The stonewall riots inspired people to organize in support of gay rights. “In the early hours of June 28, 1969, a group of gay customers at a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village called the Stonewall Inn, who had grown angry at the harassment by police, took a stand and a riot broke out. As word spread throughout the city about the demonstration, the customers of the inn were soon joined by other gay men and women who started throwing objects at the policemen, shouting “gay power.”This shows how  LGBT people were being badly treated which made them decide to take a stand for themselves. “The Stonewall riots inspired LGBT people throughout the country to organize in support of gay rights, and within two years after the riots, gay rights groups had been started in nearly every major city in the United States.”

The Stonewall riot was the spark that helped inspire LGBT people to make a stand for themselves. was result in a riot that broke out from a group of gay customers standing against harassment from policemen. The black freedom movement was another inspiration for the early gay rights movement.“Specifically, sit-ins organized by gay activists in the ‘60s appear to be directly inspired by protests held in 1960 by Black college students at Woolworth’s lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina, against racial segregation.” This proves that the protests against racial segregation which were organized by Black college students helped LGBT people in the gay right's movement. “Early LGBTQ activists (though they didn’t use that acronym at the time) adopted many of the civil rights movement’s strategies, Stein said, and they relied on much of the foundation laid by Black civil rights activists.”This shows that LGBT people didn’t really use the tact of the civil rights movement in the begging but eventually used some tact that the Civil rights movement used.

The LGBTQ activists did a sip-in that used the same tact as the sit-in. It is clear that the LGBT people have gone through lots of struggles and are still facing some in today's world. They have been discriminated against in their workplace and out in public. There are many inspirations that helped LGBT people in the gay rights movement. Some inspiration came from the stonewall riot and the civil rights movement. Overall, the LGBT people being discriminated against have helped them stand up for their rights, which allowed them to use some past movements to fight for their equal rights.
