“I never dreamed about success, I worked for it”(Estee Lauder). This powerful quote by Estee Lauder shows how women have to work and show confidence to get what they want. In ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ the women are not confident at all and are scared of the men. They are portrayed by Shakespeare as cowards. In modern-day women learned how to take a stance and become more confident. Women were able to accomplish several things and became an inspiration to younger girls. Women’s roles have significantly improved in modern times and will continue to improve from Shakespearean times.

In ‘AMSD’ all the female characters are treated unfairly and are too scared to stick up for themselves. They were treated like objects and not human beings. An example of this is when Theseus says that Hermia is like wax to Egeus. “To whom you are but as a form in wax, By him, imprinted and within his power To leave the figure or disfigure it.” This quote shows that Hermia is being seen as something less than human by Theseus. Hermia did not dare to stick up for herself, so she just accepted the fact that she was being treated as an object. Another example of women being looked down upon by men in ‘AMSD’ is when Theseus gets to marry Hippolyta as a reward. Hippolyta did not have a choice whether to marry Theseus or not. Women were portrayed as objects and not as human beings in the Shakespearean era and they could not do anything about it. This changes during the modern era when women can stand up for themselves.

During the modern era, women learned to break their gender roles and stand up for themselves. Rosa Parks was a black woman who stood up for racial injustice. She was asked to give up her seat to a white man but refused. Malala Yusafzai took a bullet for women’s education. Marie Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel prize and the first person ever to win a Nobel prize. Women are inspiring young girls to stand up for themselves and fight for what they think is right. This is important because it would develop new women who would change society for women.

Women used to be treated as objects during the Shakespearean era. They used to be looked down upon by men. During the modern era, women were able to take a stance and break the gender roles that were being placed on them. The most important part about all this is that these powerful women are inspiring other women to take a stance. This would make the female society much stronger in the coming decades. In the coming decades, there will be no more gender roles and several other young women would accomplish extraordinary things.

Overall, women’s lives will keep getting better and better in the coming years. They will continue to break gender roles and one day is treated equally to men. There was a significant improvement in women’s roles from the Shakespearean times and now. During Shakespearean times, women were treated like something less than human beings. Although during the modern era women are still looked down upon by men, they made a significant improvement since the Shakespearean era. In the near future, there will be more female activists and more opportunities for females. Women’s roles have improved in modern times and will continue to improve from Shakespearean times.
