Fashion Institute of Technology Application Essay

It is true that I have moved eighteen times before I was eighteen myself. Canadian-born, but I have lived in cities all over such as Toronto, New York, Miami, and Vancouver. My father is in Canadian business, and my mother grew up in New York working in the Hospitality industry. Growing up we moved coast to coast living in several cultural and diverse cities. As a result, I have been fourtunate enough to experience the loud world of fashion. I strive to bring new ideas from different perspectives, and improve not only myself but the institution and others around me. In my youth, I was always deeply inspired by the latest models, looks, and overall trends. From living in different cultures, the media and fashion affected my style in every city for which my love for fashion was born. 

In 2020, I worked with luxury asset managers in Miami which exposed me to fast pace business, high fashion, and influential success. The skills that I observed and obtained truly showed me that I enjoy the environment of fast pace business, but it was not the niche that satisfied me. My strengths belong in situations that push me to thrive under pressure, while still excited about the work I create. In my previous job, updating social media accounts and writing website content was a part of my responsibilities. Notably, in portraying the correct tone and structuring the information we wanted viewers to perceive was an aspect I thoroughly enjoyed. When I think about what genuinely motivates me is the ever-changing world of fashion and getting the voice heard in a loud city. The Fashion Institute of Technology is the ultimate dream.

Since I graduated in 2019, I have had time to search and recognize what will help me find my purpose and allow me to make an income while still pursuing happiness daily. Recently, I’ve started writing a blog to begin my social standing and establish the content I crave to create. Through this platform, I can share my vision of fashion, express my style, and connect with other unique individuals who share similar passions. Samantha Jones from “Sex and The City” may have a large role in my aspirations; she was quick-witted, had amazing style, and did not have an opinion of what the world thought of her- an attitude that I admired. Similarly, my goal after attending this institute is to create new ideas for societies future through the path of Public Relations. Through the experienced professors at FIT, I am confident I will be guided to where I will find success.  The “Career Exploration” Internship will also allow me to explore other options in the field. My creativity, drive, and enthusiasm for fashion will only continue to develop further through taking the vigorous classes that FIT offers. 

It is important to me when expressing which version of myself I choose through clothing, accessories, etc. Creating the image you want others to perceive is a game we all play, and truthfully  a career many have. In the  major I am applying to - “Advertising and Marketing Communications”,  I beleive this is the best possible stepping stone to launch myself into the career of my dreams. Quite frankly the perfect mixture of my passion for business and my love for fashion.  “Fashion Business Practices” and “Publicity Workshop”, both classes that I believe will lay the best foundation for my understanding of fashion and business, and many other classes listed.  I recognize that this degree will shape my ideas, hardworking abilities, and strong dedication to become the best version of myself. I plan on applying to extracurricular activities, leadership roles, internships, and abroad opportunities during my studies. My desire to become an insightful, well-rounded student is what makes me the perfect candidate. I aspire to be a stand-out student at FIT. 

Finally, I chose this institution to apply to because when I read about FIT I became instantly consumed as it aligns with everything I believe in and strive to be- both ethically and personal interests. The exclusive and intellecutial growth I will receive, I am certain will be prepare me  for professional excellence. There is not another institute that has made me feel like college is the right choice for me. To conclude, I believe I am the perfect fit that FIT needs.
