In the book, Scythe by Neal Shusterman humans have figured out how to be immortal. Humanity overcomes death and that causes people to not put a value on their lives. In the book, Volta says "Without the threat of suffering, we can't experience true joy." (Volta, Pg. 244). This is saying in the book the people would not have joy without suffering from the fear of death. The threat of suffering comes from scythes which are immortal people who keep the world from over-populating. The theme in Scythe by Neal Shusterman is out of the fear of death we cannot valve life.

Evidence in the book that proves this theme is how the characters reflect the way they feel throughout the book.¨Hope in the shadow of fear is the world's most powerful motivator." (Citra, Pg. 8). This is a good piece of evidence because Citra is sharing how she feels about the way the theme affects the way she lives her daily life. This evidence also proves that the fear of suffering will always motivate the unmotivated.

Many of the characters in Scythe believe that death by a scythe is not a natural death."Death by a scythe is not a natural death." (Man from Thunder Head, Pg. 225). This belief is true because a natural death is a death occurring in the course of nature and from natural causes. This is another example of a character in scythe sharing his opinion about how they feel about the way the theme affects the way they live their daily life.

Although the human race figured out how to be immortal there is still fear of death from scythes. “I do believe people still fear death, but only one one-hundredth as much as they used to.¨(From the gleaning journal of H.S. Curie, Pg. 144). This quote means that no matter what you can't feel truly happy with the fear of death by a scythe. Another example that this quote proves is that humans figuring out how to be immortal has helped people fear death not nearly as much as they used to.

In conclusion, the fear of death will always somehow affect the way humans live their life. It is a choice to not put a value on your life because humans overcame death. Scythes are more important than people may think and they help out overpopulation. The significant connections between reasons about the fear of death are all the different opinions the characters in scythe have on it. I think the fear of death is a natural thought and it's something that you won't forget about because death will catch up with you no matter what.
