In Griss Grimly Frankenstein written by Mary Shelley, Victor created an intelligent creature that had some good encounters in some bad; the creature has emotions and a desire for happiness just like humans; Leading many to believe that Victor's creature is human. The creature is considered human because he shows feelings to other people, including Victor. The creature also desired to make the people around him happy which then made him happy. Lastly, The creature was made from human body parts and organs persuading many to believe the creature is human.

Some readers believe that the creature is human because it shows feelings to other people. The creature also desired to make people around him happy including the DeLacey family. When the creature watched the DeLacy family day by day he was happy and content. When they started to run low on food and the family was worried the creature was quick to help as seen in the illustrations on page 97 where the creature is seen gathering food and wood for the family. Helping the DeLacy family made the creature happy. Later the creature discovers he has massive birth defects from reading Victor's Journal. The creature quickly becomes angry at Victor, his creator for rejecting him. Filled with anger and sadness the creature decides to get revenge and plans to kill all of Victor's loved ones ¨…this death will carry despair to him, and a thousand other misery shall, destroy him.¨ Pg 113 The creature says this after killing Victor's youngest brother. He wants to hurt Victor like Victor hurt him.

On the other hand some readers think the creature is not human Because he was not conceived naturally. Instead he was constructed and manufactured by a scientist. His parts are all human but he Does not have a mother or father, just a creator. He is a monster. ¨Your hours will pass in dread and misery, and soon the bolt will fall which must ravish from your happiness forever.¨ Pg 141. In this quote the creature is threatening to keep killing victor's loved ones till he can never be happy again, just like he did to the creature. But what makes a monster? Or a human? Victor's monster may have been ugly, and constructed in an unnatural way but he showed understanding of human emotion and desired human feelings of love and acceptance . He also reacted to lack of acceptance with rage and vengeance. ¨ I am content to suffer alone, while my suffering shall endure.¨ Pg 192 These were some of the creatures last words and it is him regretting all the violence and murders because in the end it did not make him happy and he died knowing he caused pain and suffering to many.

Another reason the creature is human is because it was constructed with human body parts and organs. The noticeable features of humans are their body parts, that's what makes them human. Even though The creature has birth defects, scars and stitches he still has a heart, brain, lungs, and muscles, all the things humans consist of, broken or not. In the book on page 39 it shows Victor holding a heart and a brain and placing it in the body proving the creature has a heart and a brain. On page 36 in the book Victor narrates. ¨It was with these feelings that I began the creation of a human being.¨ Victor is explaining that he is making a human being, leading many to argue the creature is in fact human.

Although it can be argued whether Victor's creature was truly human or not, it is clear that the creature was a living, breathing, thinking and feeling being. Just like Victor and other humans the creature was also flawed. The physical flaws made other humans reject him and think of him as ugly and disgusting and their rejection of him caused emotional hurt to the creature. The human reaction was to lash out and hurt Victor and bring joy to those who made him happy like the DeLacy family. Victor's monster was human because he showed deep feelings and was created with human body parts and organs. Even though the creature was misunderstood and treated like a burden he still managed to have positive connections with other humans.
