Friendship Essay: What Makes A Good Friend?

Today, it is hard to find a decent friend. People never know if that friend will be honest or not. Certainly, everyone has their own opinion and their own past with friends. However, I never been so lucky in that department. Everyone seems to be dishonest and turn around and stab your back. Therefore, it is hard to trust people in general. Naturally, friends are people who you cannot always trust.

Normally, a friend is someone who has a mutual bond with another. Friends typically are someone that can be trusted in most cases. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. There have been far too many friends who have turn their backs on another friend of theirs. In some cases, this could be because of another friendship or a relationship with someone else. Sadly, friendship does not stop someone from doing something awful to the so called friend. People are not always good to another. Many tend to act out with greed and envy. If they want something, they go after it no matter what the consequence is. Without a doubt, a friend has gone after a friend’s boyfriend or old boyfriend. In the end, a trustworthy friend should not share a mutual bond when it comes to relationships.

Meanwhile, there are also friends who betray someone’s trust by lying. That best friend who has been they are for as long as you could recall, can easily lie to save their butt. People tend to want to make their selves look better. By doing so, they lie and make something seem better then what it is. For example, this could be a little lie about wanting to come over. They could have said they had something to do or could not make it, however, they just do not want to leave or see you. In another situation, a friend could lie about something as big as stealing your car. For some friends, it is not hard for them to consciously lie to someone who trust them. Additionally, there are a few buddies who pretend to be someone’s friend for whatever reason. Obviously, this is a real hurtful matter when it comes to such extremes. When someone is pretending to be someone’s friend, they completely shatter the others heart once they find out everything was a lie. All in all, a loyal friend would not lie no matter how big or small the issue is. 

Naturally, a friend’s trust all comes down to betrayal. Friends betray trust by sharing secrets that they were not allowed to. For example, you tell your best friend about how you ate ravioli out of a can cold. You both knew people would make fun of you if they knew. However, the friend wanted to share your secret with other students. Unfortunately, it can also be as serious as personal matters going on at home. Certainly, this has happened countless times. Therefore, it be hard to trust a friend when a friend is supposed to keep your secrets, and care about your feelings. A true friend would have been loyal and took the silliest or serious secrets to their grave.

Society is full of fake people. Sadly, there are many who do not care about another’s feelings or emotions. They only care about their needs and wants. Furthermore, anyone could have a friend who is untrustworthy or fake. Like any relationship, a friendship can be lies built on top of each other from the start. Friends can do awful things to someone they say they care about without feeling as if they did anything wrong. Most cases, there is not always an apology for their actions. In summary, friends can turn their backs, lie, and share secrets they promised they would not, making them untrustworthy and fake friends.
