George And Lennie Friendship Essay Example

When Aunt Clara Passed away George had to take care of Lennie and they both got used to each other after a while. In the story Of Mice and Men,Aunt Clara is Lennie’s Guardian and she has taken care of him since he was a baby and raised him up. After Aunt Clara Passed away George agreed to take care of Lennie and traveled together to find a job in California during The Great Depression.

George and Lennie’s Friendship started when Aunt Clara passed away. George insisted to take care of Lennie because she didn't want Lennie to run off by himself. George and Lennie started to become bestfriends and George took care of Lennie ever since Aunt Clara’s death.`` I want you to stay with me, Lennie” (Steinbeck 14). The Text states that George agreed to take care of Lennie. ”Jesus Christ, somebody’d shoot you for a coyote if you was by yourself “ (Steinbeck 14). The Quote reveals George protecting Lennie and without his protection Lennie would be alone,unprotected or even dead if George didn’t agree to take care of him. Lennie feels protected by George’s apperance because he is tough and brave. Lennie likes to be around George because Lennie is defenceless and gets in a lot of trouble. Lennie and George look after each other and they don't feel lonely because they have each other. “We kinda look after each other.” (Steinbeck 18).George and Lennie are looking for a job during The Great Depresion.

George and Lennie Look for a job during the Great Depression.George and Lennie are traveling together to find a job.``We travel together,” said George coldly (Steinbeck 26). Since George and Lennie are finding a job during The Great Depression it would be hard for them to find a job because The Great Depression was a really bad event that they went through. George and Lennie have a lot of dreams together  to get a job and get their own place to stay at. Hardly none of the guys ever travel together. I hardly never seen two guys travel together” (Steinbeck 20). Traveling with another person will be better because you can help eachother throughout the journey and support one another.“It’s a lot nicer to go around with a guy you know,” (Steinbeck 18). Traveling with a friend is better than traveling by yourself because you have a companion  and you won’t feel lonely.

In Conclusion,Lennie and George are best friends and they want to do everything together but one thing about Lennie is that he is a human disaster and always gets in trouble which makes it harder for George to take care of him.Only if Lennie wasn’t a human disaster he could have lived.
