George Bush 9/11 Speech Essay Example

In the speech George W. Bush gave on 9/11 terrorist attack in NYC to the American citizens, he sends the message that the Nation will recover from the hurtful events and the “war against terrorism” will be won. 

Throughout  the whole speech, Bush praises and proudly states what it is like to be part of America: “Our country is strong.”; “we’re the brightest beacon of freedom and opportunity”; “the best of America”; “God bless America”.

He praises the Americans, his audience, and shows he believes that this attack has hurt but has not attacked the American spirit. 

Throughout the speech, he also describes the attack by the view of an American:

“Despicable acts of terror”; “unyielding anger”; “these acts shatter steel”; “our nation saw evil”; “strongly condemning these attacks”.

Is he saying that to respond to a violent attack, violence must be used? Is the real message he sends “an aye for an aye, a tooth for a tooth”? Or is he reassuring his citizens that they are strong? That they will survive and recover from this? That they will come out of this stronger than ever?  

He’s being nice and complementing his people to make them proud of having a President that see them and congratulates them for the unity shown in times of need and he wants their trust in the future for whatever military choices he will take against terrorism. He wants to be backed up by the American citizens. 

He says more than once, with nice words, that he wants revenge, that he’s angry and he tries to influence his sad and shattered audience with his anger, and sends the message that peace and justice is to be achieved by winning a war. They were attacked and he wants to be sided by the American citizens to act against terrorists. 

By praising the good qualities of American culture, he wins over the audience who he wants to fight back because that’s what’s right. 

Winning over Americans and the war against terrorism is not his only goal. He praises and thanks USA’s allies who have been close and helped recovering. 

George W. Bush’s tone passes from being angry to being thankful in a few sentences. 

By this strategic choice to mention the outside world help received, in a speech which purpose should be to reassure citizens who have lost and been hurt and insure unity to the population, he makes understand the audience who was not at the time blinded by experiencing the attack in real life that he’s next step was going to be attack terrorism.
