GMOs or better known as genetically modified organisms, are organisms that have been artificially engineered. Studies show that there are no negative effects on GMOs for human consumption, but everyone has their own point of view on GMOs. As for me, I believe GMOs benefit the world as long as they’re supervised and closely regulated. For starters, GMOs can be designed to prevent almost anything that involves the organism with the most popular being prevention of pests. This can help farmers in multiple ways. GMO products also help prevent global hunger, though it hasn't fully been prevented. GMOs do provide various reasonable and positive effects, but if used or designed improperly, GMOs can cause negative side effects which is why they should always be closely supervised and regulated. 

As you may know, GMOs can have their DNA be artificially changed for any reason. Most of the time, this is done to prevent pesticides from interacting with the organism or to prevent organisms from the risk of extinction. This can enable agriculturalists who are growing the organisms or preparing them to focus more on other organisms rather than GMOs because GMOs are assured to fulfill what they’re promised. 

In the 1990’s, Hawaii suffered from a loss of production in their papayas. The papayas were contracting harmful viruses which led to them dying. This wasn’t helpful to vendors and agriculturalists and just as they began to lose all hope, scientists had come up with a genetically modified papaya which is better known as the rainbow papaya. The rainbow papayas were virus-resistant, meaning no virus could harm these papayas. Almost two years later, more than half of the papayas in Hawaii were genetically modified. 

Another example would be what happened to Bangladesh in the 2010’s. Agriculturalists who grew eggplants had faced a similar situation that Hawaii faced in the 1990’s. The production of eggplants in Bangladesh had been running low due to the extreme weather and pesticides interacting with the eggplants. Agriculturalists were left with no choice, but to spray the eggplants with anti-pesticide sprays relatively often which was not only harmful towards the eggplants, but agriculturalists had also been getting sick. Fortunately, scientists developed a new form of eggplants that were pesticide resistant. Not only did this help the production of eggplants, but the health and wealth of agriculturalists. 

GMOs have helped fight world hunger and though it isn’t fully gone yet, GMOs have made a big impact on world hunger. GMO foods have been made cheaper due to the less amount of resources, such as water and land that agriculturalists use to prepare and grow the foods. Not to mention that scientists have the ability to switch out the DNA from other organisms into another organism which can be enriched with nutrients that can help less fortunate people.
