Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss Book Review

Green Eggs and Ham is a fictional book written by Dr. Seuss in the 1960s and one of the best-selling children's books of all time.  In this book, Sam-I-Am torments his friend Guy-I-Am to taste a wonderful dish of green eggs and ham. However, Guy repeatedly tells Sam "I do not like green eggs and ham! I do not like them Sam-I-Am!" Sam continues to pester Guy in several different ways to just try the green eggs and ham. Once Guy samples the dish he is overjoyed. By refusing to give up, you can achieve anything throughout life. In the playful rhyme, "Green Eggs and Ham", Dr. Seuss initially portrays Guy as a Grouchy Guy; however, when he completely engages in sampling the delicious delicacy he transforms into a lively, exuberant cat.

In this fictional book, Sam-I-am is buzzing around like the unidentified insect he is. Sam humming around zooming here and there; then everywhere; while holding a sign.The clue says,"I am Sam. I am Sam. Sam I am" (Geisel 3,5,7). Sam the anthropomorphic creature wants to be noticed by his dear friend and will do anything to get it. Guy I am is lounging in a chair reading a book when he begins to bellow, "That Sam-I-am! That Sam-I-am! I do not like that Sam-I-am!"(9). Sam is a nat harassing Guy to taste the green eggs and ham. Guy feels it will be hard to get rid of the pestering insect. Then, anxiety begins to swell inside Guy.  

In this adventurous book, Sam, the indefinable bug without sensors, chases Guy up a tree with a dish of green eggs and ham while driving a car. Sam responds, "You may like them. You will see. You may like them in a tree!" (Geisel 28). He is persistently hassling Guy to try the delightful hors-d'oeuvre. Guy articulated, "I would not, could not in a tree. Not in a car! You let me be" (30). The platter appears disgusting to Guy, therefore he will not give it a taste. Once again Sam pleaded with his friend to sample the tasty treat.

Guy has a disquietude to try new things. It's simple, just give it a go! Sam, with a white face and feet, pursued his buddy to the lake and said, "You do not like them. So you say. Try them! Try them! And you may" (Geisel 53). Guy, you will never know if you do not try them. You might just like it. Guy shouts, "Sam! If you will let me be, I will try them. You will see" (54). I will try them Sam as long as you leave me alone. Sam informed Guy, you can't knock it until you try it.  

Experimenting with new foods will help give Guy a well-balanced diet that is very nutritious. It can also help Guy discover things he never knew he loved.   He can also help set a good example for others around him. When Guy samples a new dish then he can honestly know whether he likes it or not. Then, others will follow suit with him.  Be adventurous and try new things. The adventure is endless.
