The subject I will be discussing today is why I believe the movie Halloween can be categorized as an action movie instead of a horror film. Many would argue or assume that the movie Halloween is a horror or thriller movie. Many can argue that how much killing is involved in the movie that it would have to be categorized as a horror film. Halloween is categorized as a horror, thriller and slasher movie. It was made in 1978 in southern California and premiered in October of the same year producing over 70 million dollars. “It is one of the most influential horror films ever made.” (Thompson, Eliza) It was mainly responsible for making slasher movies so popular in the 1980s. “The producer shot many angles from the killer's point of view to give it tension.” (IMDb) There are many death scenes and many people do die in the movie, some in brutal ways.

Today I will be explaining to you why Halloween can be considered an action movie instead of a horror movie. I believe that the movie Halloween can be considered an action movie for many reasons. One being how many fight scenes are in the movie. Another being how many chase scenes are in the movie. Halloween is a fast-paced movie in which a lot of things are happening at once. There are many exciting stunts that are happening during Halloween which will leave many viewers on the edge of their seats.

I consider Halloween as an action movie because “an action movie is defined as fast paced, has a lot of fight scenes, chase scenes, and exciting stunts.” (Master Class) Action movies are meant to be thrilling, leaving you on the edge of your seat. “Action movies manage fear in us through their intensity effects.” (Christiansen, Steen Ledet)

The first claim I would like to introduce is comparing Halloween to the movie Deadpool in which both share similarities. In Halloween there is a man who has been locked up in a sanitarium where he was later treated poorly for over fifteen years one day, he escapes stealing a white expressionless mask and a mechanics coveralls and begins his killings again, soon after he finds out he has a sister in which he seeks a vengeance for and begins looking for her to kill many say Michael has superhuman powers because of his strength and he never dies. In Deadpool there is a man who has cancer and runs away from his family he then goes to have an experimental procedure done to see if he can cure his cancer where he then gets tortured and gets superhuman powers but gets burned in the process and sets out to find the cure for him to go back to his normal self. Both movies are different in their own ways but touch many of the same action scenes. For starters they are both out for vengeance killings. In the process of reaching their targets they run into many obstacles and end up killing people who ultimately get in there way. They both wear a mask to cover their faces because they do not want the world to see them and both have a superhuman type strength.
