How The Constitution protected the rights of the people in the United States

The United States of America has kept the Constitution as its foundation for its government for over two-hundred years, and it's certainly done its job. However, before the Constitution even existed, the United States had something called the Articles of Confederation, which allowed the states to rule over themselves instead of one elected leader with other branches of government to assist this leader. With this came lots of trial and error that made the United States scrap the AoC completely and replace it with something new that would be able to reach out to everyone. Although some feared the Constitution placed too much power in the federal government, the Constitution protected the rights of people, provided checks and balances, and fixed the flaws of the Articles of Confederation; therefore, the Constitution was the superior structure for America’s government.

The Constitution protected the rights of the people in the United States. The Constitution is boundless when it comes to making sure the citizens and overall community of America are protected from anything that may attempt to destroy it, even when there is an uprising of sorts within itself. This is because The Constitution gives the federal government enough power to be able to protect every individual state, and stop every state, as well as the people in it. (5) Let’s take Shays’ Rebellion as an example; because the Articles of Confederation didn’t allow the federal government to take control and stop the rebellion, nothing was able to be done for a while. This meant tiny militias had to attempt to put a stop to the rebellion, with many times that ended in failure. Shay’s rebellion showed a need for a federal government to be able to build an army that can stop a rebellion similar to Shay’s rebellion. The federal government didn’t need to strictly force the people of America to follow the Constitution as many of the laws written were for the people. The Constitution is not afraid to change for the better in order to provide security and property for the people. (2) This can also connect back to Shay’s rebellion because it was people rioting with ideas that they were against and the Constitution was the direct thought of the people in mind. The Constitution was writing for people like the people who were participating in Shay’s rebellion, as well as the people who keep things to themselves. The Amendments written in the Constitution were designed to make Americans’ lives safer by providing more security and safety. Some of these Amendments include Amendment one, which is respecting ones’ religion; Amendment two, a well-organized militia that is funded by the government; Amendment three, which states soldiers must be given consent before sleeping in a persons’ quarters; and amendment ten, by stating that states are still allowed to oversee their states if the federal government doesn’t state anything specific about it. (7) The Constitution allowed the federal government to have power, which is the backbone of America, as well as giving states some power to oversee their own state instead of giving them all of the power. These amendments were set up with the failures of the previous government in mind, and what people found the most distasteful and most difficult to deal with. More specifically, what people tried to have riots against. The Federal government has what the people have in mind, as well as what the states as a whole have in mind, as they granted them some power to watch over their own state and work closely with the federal government to achieve the goal of maintaining safety in the United States.
