How to Relieve Stress and Anxiety Essay Example

In class, I finished reading a book by Jason Reynolds titled Patina. The story follows Patty, who strives to remain excellent in her sport while struggling to cope with issues at home. Examples of topics covered include adoption, race, social class, sadness at the loss of a parent, diabetes, dialysis, friendship, and fitting in a new school. At the end of the story Patina, states, “leave everything, all the hurting stuff, the unregular stuff that seemed so regular to me, in the dust.” Some reasons why Patina started running are for her mom who lost both of her legs. Forget about all the worries in her life, whether it is home or school. Finally, be included in a team sport, in this case, is running. There are many ways to relieve stress and anxiety. 

One way that I do to relieve stress is exercising. Exercising is a great way to relieve stress and is also good for the body. Exercise can boost your overall health and well-being, which gives you more energy throughout the week. Exercising has some stress-busting benefits, too. It increases endorphins. You may be able to increase endorphin production through physical movement. In chapter 9 Patina, says this in her thoughts. "Now, there's not  an excuse not to go right to Becca's after school." In other words, Patina would rather be at track since she feels relieved and calm by being there. Patina also states that she can clear her thoughts when she is at track since nothing is bothering her. When I exercise, whether it is walking, running, or even dancing, I feel relieved and not distracted from anything that is bothering me.

Another way I do to relieve stress/ anxiety is by talking and spending time with family and friends. When talking to the family, you express how you feel to them. Family members can comfort you and make you feel better. In the book, Patina talked with Uncle Tony and Maddy about how she was stressed when Kyrstal talked, about how she had a white mom (Momly). Uncle Tony comforted Patina which made her feel relaxed. 

The final way I do to relieve stress/anxiety is to listen to music. Music can affect both our feelings and our physical well-being. Fast music will help you concentrate by making you feel more alert. Slow music will help you relax and unwind after a long day. At the begging of the book Patina, and Maddy loves to jam out their favourite music. This made Patina feel happy and serene. When I listen to music, it makes me feel jolly. I also love to sing along which, makes me feel that I am in my world.
