Suzanne Collins authored the novel, “The Hunger Games,” The Hunger Games is where two tributes from all 12 districts compete in an arena fighting a battle on life or death as it is the Capitol's way of showing their citizens who are in charge. Katniss demonstrates intelligence through her ability to form alliances, friendships, and by her hunting and foraging skills throughout the Hunger Games. Overall, it is clear that whilst there are other advantageous skills, intelligence remains an essential component of survival.

Through her understanding of the benefits of alliances, Katniss again demonstrates how the role sharpness plays in helping her survive. " You know they're not the only ones who can form alliances,"  Rue's greatest strength is her speed which Katniss knew they would benefit from considering that her greatest talent is her ability to Hunt. Katniss is proposing that she and Rue ally during the games. Katniss also wants to protect Rue in the Hunger Games and keep her safe. After talking to Rue she realises the truth about Rue's district and how they are also an underprivileged district. By combining their skills and knowledge,  Katniss and Rue become more powerful and ready for the rest of the games. " Getting the broth for Peeta takes an hour of coaxing, begging, threatening" Even though Katniss still prioritizes Peeta needs and helps him recover. Moreover, they are also going against the game makers merciless acts/rules throughout the games. Ultimately, it is clear that forming alliances and friendships adds up to how intelligence can be an essential survival skill when competing in the Games.

Katniss demonstrates the significance of intelligence through her understanding of the environment to help her survive. For instance  " Too many years of hunting... I'm rewarded with one fine rabbit," This signifies the fact that hunting and foraging is an important skill. Katniss figures out the way to get sponsorships is to show the Sponsors that she can hunt and that she is worth sponsoring. In addition, she indicates that sponsors would realise that she would be a good bet because she won't be lured into traps of food, unlike the other tributes." I know it's risky to be setting up traps, but food will go fast out here," Katniss sets up a snare hoping to find some food even though it is very dangerous and she could get caught but she knows that she can't survive without food. Effectively, the shows that even though hunting and foraging can be easy, Katniss had to be very careful and wise with her actions to survive and not get caught.

Through her hunting and foraging skills and by her ability to form ally's and friendships Katniss Everdeen demonstrates intelligence. Overall, it is clear that while there are different effective skills, intelligence stays a critical aspect of survival in the Hunger Games. Though the novel discusses themes such as Oppression, fear, Materialism etc...The Moral of the novel  Hunger Games explains and signifies that always stand up for what you believe.
