As the amelioration of technology continues, more people are debating over whether or not technology is leading us into the future or leading us to our own demise. Many people believe that technology is beneficial to society but we should not  rely on technology to do the things we no longer wish to do ourselves. Yes while technology helps with advancements in medicine and can be more efficient at a number of tasks, we also forget to remember that technology can be exorbitant, has led to an increase in health issues, creates dependencies, and creates a disengaged society.

Over the past 50 years advancements in technology have given a rise to an increase in medicinal breakthroughs, it has also led to an increase in health concerns, specifically obesity. Since 1970 the prevalence of obesity in children has tripled from 5% in 1971-1974 to 17% in 2009-2010. Diabetes, a disease once considered to be exclusive to adults, has also seen an increase in children. Technology is directly tied into this considering that since 1970 we have come across cell phones, computers, and video games. All these have led to a very unhealthy lifestyle choice for many children and teens. Of course these health concerns are not exclusive to children and teens as an increase in technology would also see an increase in many people not having to work as much nor having to put a significant amount of effort into their work. This would lead to an increase in plenty of leisure time and in many cases leading to more unhealthy lifestyles. Another form of health concerns comes to us in the form of depression. Depression can cause the person to function poorly in the family, school, and work. At its absolute worst, depression can lead to suicide and approximately 800,000 people lose their lives to suicide. The World Health Organization has listed suicide as the second leading cause of death in 15 to 29 year olds.

As previously stated, technology can be more efficient than humans at various tasks but we often fail to recall that most technologies have an unconscionable price. This would of course to technology only being available to those who can afford it. This would lead to an even bigger divide between the higher and lower classes that is already prevalent in today’s society. Many of the atrocities seen in the forms of  murders and crimes have been caused by an unstable home and environment. Chicago, the biggest city in the midwest, has seen gang culture not only grow but thrive in its lower income areas. Artists such as King Von, Tray Savage, and FBG Duck were all Chicago rappers who came from a low income area and ended up dead due to gun violence. Many people have used these late artist’s lives as an example of how the world we live in isn’t all black and white. King Von used his platform to try and better the situation that plague many teens in Chicago. Researchers have also found higher rates of social and health problems in lower income communities.

Anxiety, impatience, memory, addiction, and skill replacement are all dependencies caused by technology. According to a study made by Penn State 77% of society relied on technology to succeed. This reliance on technology has begun to affect us negatively, with many people developing nomophobia, the fear of losing or being away from their phones. According to Trendhunter, 66% of the population suffers from nomophobia. Even if one says they are not addicted to their phones, technology still has an enormous impact on our mental and physical health. From heightened anxiety to stiff necks, technology has inserted itself into nearly all facets of our lives. The kind of diversion we get from innovation today is known as inactive amusement. This could be anything from marathon watching a show on Netflix to tuning in to a podcast. It doesn’t require a lot of exertion or effort. Inactive diversion is not the same as dynamic amusement or active amusement, which requires the effort of physical or mental activity.

Innovation has affected how we impart. Some time ago, individuals needed to convey principally by conversing with one another face to face. After some time, innovation gave us the interesting capacity to speak with individuals who were far away from us, regardless of whether it was by settling on a telephone decision or sending an email. Presently we can converse with anybody on the planet, any season of day. This might be acceptable in principle, yet the essential standards of solid correspondence have been separated. There's no denying the way that innovation has made it simple for us to converse with our companions quickly. Yet, simultaneously, large numbers of us have failed to remember how to cooperate with others without phones between us. People are social creatures. People need to interface with different people, it's essential for their inclination. Be that as it may, innovation is gradually working on the need to really connect with different people face to face. For instance, the production of social media has permitted individuals to draw in with a large number of different people who they don't even know. You can make a whole group of friends online that you've never met.

Over the past 50 years advancements in technology have given a rise to an increase in medicinal breakthroughs, it has also led to an increase in health concerns, specifically obesity. Of course these health concerns are not exclusive to children and teens as an increase in technology would also see an increase in many people not having to work as much nor having to put a significant amount of effort into their work. The exorbitant prices of technology also leads to some areas being ahead of others which brings up the question of what happens to the areas that can not afford these “essentials”.
