People use technology every day, sometimes without even realizing it. Things like refrigerators and pulley systems do not feel like technology but are some of the most important technological advances for daily life. Technology is anything mechanical that improves the quality of life for a substantial number of people; It makes life a little easier and keeps everyone connected, no matter how far apart. Distinct types of technology are beneficial to fast and easy cooking, long-distance communication, realistic movies, and the spread of political information.

Technology in the food industry has progressed significantly throughout the years. Meat slicers cut meat faster and more evenly than a traditional knife. Before refrigerators, food was preserved with salt or snow; but with the invention of the refrigerator and freezer, food can be preserved for much longer without any additional preservatives. Mixing ingredients are the worst part of baking, it takes too long and hurts your joints almost immediately; hence, there are now electric mixers and blenders. Similar inventions are the Slap Chop, salad spinners, and automatic can openers; all of these were invented to make cooking/baking less tedious and painful. From ovens to air fryers, cooking technology has gotten faster, safer, and more portable.

Today, people can have real-time written conversations with people in other countries through social media. Websites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have multiple ways of communicating with other people. Someone can post to their timeline for a multitude of people to see and comment on. Users can comment on other people’s posts, or they can directly message them for a private conversation. This is important because most people have friends in other states and countries that they can never see; also, letters take a long time to send so having a real-time long-distance conversation is impossible. Some people do not own a phone, so they cannot call or text their friends. Social media has made it possible to talk to those long-distance friends with only a computer that you can find at any public library, closing the gap between phoneless friends. Social media also allows people to have real conversations without being in the same room, meaning a person can get an immediate answer to their question or talk to their friend whenever they want without having to wait weeks for a response.

The invention of TVs in the 1960s allowed the president to address the whole nation at once, creating a quick and effective spread of political information. When social media was created, it gave the people in power an outlet to speak directly with the people they serve, through Twitter and Facebook. People can find information about political issues anywhere online and fact-check them without leaving the house or opening a book. People can find local news from anywhere around the world that they otherwise would not know about. They can also find different views on the same topic to form their own opinions on it. They can send emails to governors and senators or tweet at them and have it reach them immediately; allowing them to see your urgent concerns before it is too late to change them.

CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) and animatronics allow Hollywood to bring extinct species back to life and create whole worlds for them to live in. 3d animation and CGI use green suits on actors to create cartoon characters in live-action and animated movies; While zip lines make it appear an actor is flying. Cameras have different lenses that create different effects for each scene, for example, a fisheye lens creates an unsettling view of an insane person. There are also noise suppressors that cut out the sound of wind when recording outside. Without a camera, a movie is just a stage play, seen only by the limited number of people in the room. Recording a movie allows thousands of people to watch it multiple times, often for far cheaper than a stage play. It also keeps people from having to travel to see their favorite film.

Technology has become increasingly beneficial in many facets of daily life. From cooking to communication to movies and politics. There is nothing more important than the technology that connects us and makes life a little easier. Political leaders can hear our concerns and speak to us directly through social media. While at the same time, movies are getting better special effects; which creates more enjoyable experiences; and cooking is easier and faster than ever. At the end of the day, technology is extremely beneficial and important.
