Impulse in The Fight by Montague and What Happened During the Ice Storm by Heynan

Have you ever done something without thinking? Well that is what you call impulse. In the poem “The Fight '' by Montague, is a poem about a kid who finds some bird eggs, impulsively tells a classmate about them and then the classmate precedes to smash the eggs one by one. In the short story “What Happened During the Ice Storm” by Heynan, is a short story about two boys who impulsively go out in the middle of a storm to keep some pheasants warm. Heynan and Montague describe the character’s actions using pivotal words and phrases to develop the idea that people do things impulsively all the time without even realizing it.  The author develops the theme by putting in the impulsive actions the characters do in the story. For example in the poem “The Fight” it states ,“I was so pleased, I ran to fetch a school companion”. Meaning that the boy impulsively went to tell someone else about the existence of the eggs, which puts the eggs in danger of getting broken. Which is one example of how people act impulsively. Another example is, “It was still breast warm where I curved in my hand to count them”. Which means the boy impulsively went to grab the eggs from their nest without thinking about the consequences. Which is another example of how people act impulsively. These two examples were ways the theme was used in the poem “The Fight”. Another example on how authors develop the theme by putting in the impulsive actions the characters do in the story is the short story “What Happened During the Ice Storm”. An example on how the author included the theme in the short story  “What Happened During The Ice Storm.” is in the short story, two impulsive boys go and cover a hurdle of pheasants. They went to cover the birds without worrying about possibly getting attacked or sick. Another example is “the boys went out into the freezing rain to find pheasants too”. This means the two boys impusely went out in the middle of a storm without caring about the consequences like them getting sick or lost. Heynan’s short story “What Happened During the Ice Storm '' and Montague’s poem “The Fight '' were both examples on how the authors develop the theme into the story by putting in the impulsive actions the characters do in the story. Heynan’s short story “What Happened During the Ice Storm '' and Montague’s poem “The Fight '' were both amazing examples of the theme that people do things impulsively all the time without even realizing it. Heynan’s short story “What Happened During the Ice Storm '' was an amazing example of impulse by showing two boys impiously going out in a storm to help out some pheasants stay warm without worrying about himself getting sick or hurt. Montague’s poem “The Fight '' is also an amazing example showing impulse by showing us a story on how a boy impulsively starts beating a classmate after the classmate breaks some baby eggs when he could have gotten in trouble and could have easily talked it out. In conclusion Heynan’s short story “What Happened During the Ice Storm '' and Montague’s poem “The Fight '' were both amazing at including and explaining the theme perfectly.
