Within the past year of 2021, to the present year of 2022, the amount of deaths caused by abused drugs only in the United States is about 100,306 which has increased by 28.5%. When someone exploits and takes advantage of drugs, many consequences are faced by the individual that will take over their life, depending if these effects are long or short term. The use of drugs is to get rid of pain or any discomfort, leading to some wanting to take more to make their feelings numb. Health risks of drugs are  physical, mental, and  future purposes that can be difficult to recover from.

The physical health risks of drugs can be put together on purpose, and by accident. As previously spoken about, people take drugs to numb themselves from agony, when drugs can do the complete opposite. Overdose and being an addict can put someone's body in a position that is very difficult to retrieve. When a drug is being abused, even if the drug is prescribed by a doctor, the individual can go against their prescribed amount and become an addict. Some prescriptions can be written wrong to make the person have an accidental overdose. There are also illegal drugs like maraijana, cocaine, heroin, and meth that can be from places you don’t know. Death, diseases, lung irritation, heart and lung damage, and a weak immunity system are just a few example risks of the wrong use of drugs. Appearances are also involved in this change of addiction such as bloodshot eyes, dry mouth, weight loss, and redness/paleness. Altogether, using drugs in the wrong way brings negative physical side effects.

Mental health is another part of drug abuse which is usually overlooked. When drugs are not properly used, the being will destroy their brain. Thinking clearly is not possible, nor is the basics of a functioning brain. Hallucinations and paranoia can also occur when misusing drugs. When the human is taking drugs daily, relationships with friends and family are torn because of the brain not working properly anymore, doing actions that the individual would normally not do. Mental health problems such as depression, physosis, and anxiety are linked with overuse of drugs that can lead to suicide. When a drug becomes addictive, it over-stimulates the “reward circuit” of the brain, and imitates the brain’s chemical messengers, which is what causes someone to become addicted, not being able to stop.

Futures for people that are drug addicts basically don’t have a future at all. Since relationships are lost, nobody is willing to help that person, and now they’re completely disconnected from reality. School dropouts are extremely common over drug users and won’t be able to find a job, not owning any property. Even when someone that is addicted to drugs gets little money from someone off the road, they will spend the money on more drugs leading their health to a worse state than what it is already in. Strokes, cancer, and death chances are very high for a future ahead, without being treated in any sort.

In conclusion, there are always risks when taking drugs that can be life-threatening. But, that can be prevented if the individual does not abuse the drug. The brain can change how it sends and receives information, and physically cannot have a functioning body. Don’t do drugs….
