Introduction to IT Certifications

Internet technology has really evolved over the years, with technology such as televisions, phones, computers, laptops, even cars technology has found its way on almost everything, which opens the door to plenty of internet technology jobs. The requirements in the IT field are different from other careers, some require bachelor degrees and experience, in the IT field it is different you can get a IT job with no degree, an associates, bachelors and certain jobs won’t require experience but there is one thing you need when entering the IT world and that is certifications. Certifications are things that show that you have IT skills and experience for the job that you are applying for, they can also allow you to make more than the peers you work with. My approved article states “IT professionals holding the following popular certifications can earn 5% to 10% more than their peers.” (Top 15 IT certifications in demand for 2021) Certifications can also further your career in IT with opportunities opening such as promotions. Certifications are really important when working in IT, these certifications show that you have some experience and it can help you secure the job you want.

The certifications that you can earn are really versatile, there is a certification for anything you are interested in pursuing. The good thing about certifications is that if you are just starting out or you have been in IT for a while there is a certification no matter where you are in your career, which is really helpful. Different companies offer certifications for IT departments such as cloud computing, Amazon’s AWS Certified Solutions Architect is a popular certification that you can earn for cloud computing. AWS is used at companies so it will look good for your resume to have this certification in your resume. Another certification involving cloud is the Certified  Cloud Security Professional or CCSP certification, This certification allows you to show off your knowledge and abilities when working on managing and securing data in the cloud of an application. This certification is recommended if you are interested in working with cloud technology, and will look good in your resume when applying for a cloud technology role. This certification can be taken through the International Information System Security Certification Consortium but it is recommended to have five years of experience in IT and three years of experience in information security.

Types of Certifications

Cloud technology is not the only thing you can get certified for, there are more certifications for more IT careers. There are many certifications that are popular due to them paying the most and them being the most in demand roles for you to apply for. According to my article some of the top certifications come from companies such as Amazon, Cisco, and Microsoft (Top 15 IT certifications in demand for 2021). Amazon has a lot of AWS certifications and is really good to have on your resume when working with companies, those with these certifications can earn an estimated $113,000. Cisco’s certifications are certifications that should be done after you've had a few years of experience in the subjects required, so it will take a little more time to earn these certifications. Cisco certifications offer you specializations and you take an exam in order to earn them. 

The salary you can make by earning these certifications depends on which one you take, Cisco has many certifications with different salaries that are estimated.. Microsoft has certifications that you can take as a beginner and some you can take after some experience. These certifications allow you to work on your skills while getting certified, some are entry level so it does not matter if you are a beginner or have done this for a while, Microsoft has a certification for everyone. Microsoft just like Cisco, their salary off these certifications also depend on which certification you have since all of them have different salaries estimated. 

Favorite Certifications

While reading this article I have come across some certifications that I really liked and would go after myself. I like the AWS certified solutions architect offered by Amazon, it is a cloud computing certification and can be used at companies and the reason I like it is because not only is it entry level whether you're not working yet or plan to work soon you can still get the certification and it will look good on the resume. Another reason is because this certification allows me to focus on my skills and improve them while getting certified so I can have some experience. Another certification I like is the Certified Data Professional (CDP) certification, the CDP certification is a certification that works on a range of things so you have a choice on what you want to get certified in. Another reason why I like this certification is because if you are a beginner or have been doing this for a while this certification can still be taken regardless, because it has multiple starting levels for whoever wants to get this certification. My last certification is my personal favorite and  is the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate certifications. I really enjoy this certification out of all of them because this certification is entry level and offers certifications in multiple subjects to work on, out of all the certifications I have listed today this one in my opinion is the best certification to get when starting out in IT not only are you working on your skills but the certification will be good to have on your resume.

Conclusion

Certifications are good for your career overall for your career in the IT world, it really shows in your resume that you are serious and want to improve whether you are a beginner or if you have been doing this for years. By getting these certifications you are making a good looking resume, and  getting experience, while also opening the doors to more opportunities for your career. The versatility in these certifications give you training for the specific job you want and gives you the training you need to be successful. I personally am really glad that I found this article, it showed me more about certifications and how many there are, what types, and what they can do for my career moving forward. While reading this article I also found some certification I plan on getting once I get out of school. I learned about certifications during this current semester in my IT_101_INS1_FA21 while reading a post my professor posted on D2L and that was my first introduction to certifications. In that post I learned about the popular certification that gives you the most experience and pays the most. Some of those certifications are also in my article such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Cisco certifications. What I gained from this article is that getting certifications is a good way to start out my IT career and i'm looking forward to getting these certifications as soon as possible.
