George Washington laid out the foundation to start to build up a successful nation.With lots of wars and battles going on George Washington thought it was best for the new nation to create a distance from foreign countries but not cut them off completely. This is when he made the Proclamation of Neutrality, a war broke out where Great Britain and France were in a disagreement. George Washington decided to stay out of the nonsense and not get involved in either side of the fight. George Washington knew the new nation wasn’t at its potential to be prepared to fight. The US couldn’t afford to fight if they had no foundation together so there was no point entering a fight without experience. Continuing George Washington, the US, and Britain decided to make peace with one another through Jay’s Treaty. As much as George Washington impacted the foreign policies of the new nation he also improved the domestic ones inside the country. George Washington created the Judiciary Act of 1789. Creating supreme courts nationwide and distributing power to different federal attorneys set in stone the expectations of the justices to come. Varied opinions were also extremely helpful when it came to difficult decisions in the government. The Alien and Sedition act was created. The Alien Act was a requirement changed from 5 to 14 years to have permission to import citizens. This was argued because of the laws to become a viable voter. Most Federalists agreed with this law because the citizens being imported were mostly Democratic-Republicans. To continue, the Sedition Act was a law that didn’t allow citizens who didn’t agree with the government to be forbidden from news, paper, or speaking false assumptions. This violated the first amendment for taking away freedom of press, and speech. All in all, John Adams attempted to change to an coming nation which led to downfalls of his work and the potential and effort he was putting in.
